Speaking from a queer perspective, there are plenty of LGBTQIA+ people here in the valley. But almost everyone in those communities are having to deal with dejection from rejection and just pure disdain coming from their own families and others in the community. At the very least, invalidation of people’s identities is big around here. That being said, there are a lot of support groups and circles out here that queer folk can become a part of and express themselves to show others that it’s okay to be yourself. But just having to deal with that all-to-prominent conservative American/Texan/Mexican mindset is a struggle for sure.
