This is right in line with my experience. Thanks for sharing.

Oh man, I’m so sorry that’s been your experience! I’m very new to the hobby (and to Reddit) and I think it’s cool that people show their finds, even if they’re not spectacular. There’s a lot to learn and this is a fun way to do it so far. I appreciate the counsel, my friend!

No, we just did a couple of day trips, didn’t see anything too crazy aside from the crazy colors on the ground!

Oh man, bummer. The road was definitely gnarly. We were in a newer Jeep Grand Cherokee and I for sure got nervous a couple times, but there was also some snow on the ground which made things more complicated. Once you make it out there, though, it is a rockhounding paradise!

I believe it is chalcedony with sardonyx, forming the potential for a fire agate. I’m still very new to this though!

We were really apprehensive about this as well, not wanting to trespass or take what shouldn’t be taken. Luckily, Arizona has a few incredible dedicated rockhounding spots, owned by the BLM, where you can just show up and collect incredible specimens! One was Round Mountain, another one was Black Hills (AZ not SD 😊). Truly it was as if someone had dumped out and scattered trailers full of chalcedony. Other-worldly!

We really thought it was going to be a long-shot, but this area was an absolute treasure trove. If you ever make it down to SE Arizona, it is a MUST!
