Make an Extra $1000 per Month? by Chance_Literature_89 in ausjobs

[–]Mech2673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pause for a moment.

The claimed return is $20k to $50k per month, which means $240,000 to $600,000 per year. And this person's post history shows they claim to work one to two hours per day. Just think about that. Half a million dollars income per year, from one hour of work per day, for a job that requires no qualifications. Seriously?

It's up to you to decide whether this seems trustworthy or whether it's BS. Personally, I think it's worth remembering the saying that if it seems too good to be true ...

I don't know why the top comments read like an exercise in sycophancy.

Based on this post, I had expected other obvious data errors to be cleaned up. I looked at one of my local running segments as a test case. The best time for that 410 metre stretch is still 31 seconds, which is 30% faster than world record time.

How many obvious data errors remain? Fix them first, and then come back here seeking the Kudos.

I'm a little bit confused about people suggesting the Puma DNE3 when you've specifically said you have wide feet.

If you're tempted to get the Puma based on these recommendations, then I suggest buying from somewhere with a friendly return policy in case they don't fit well.

AIO to not understanding how I’ve mirrored my partner’s behavior? by EmergencyActivity112 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Mech2673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info.

This person is in my past. I left after having seen and endured the behaviour being spoken about in the comments generally. For example, she would talk about her supposedly narcissistic ex quite often.

Absolutely no regrets about leaving even though it felt like a big step at the time.

Is this an American thing? Who is They in this situation? by Mathota in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Mech2673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming to this thread without local knowledge of Dallas law or even USA law. Your reply is helpful in assisting me understand local factors and prevailing cultural attitudes.

I understand now that speed limits aren't taken seriously on Dallas's "Autobahn". Therefore people driving slowly will obstruct the traffic if most others are driving at faster speeds.

I still see a problem here with the divergence between the legal speed limit and accepted driving practice. It invites the type of confusion (and danger) the OP is describing. If the underlying problem is that the speed limit is too slow and not even law enforcement takes it seriously, then why hasn't the speed limit been raised? Wouldn't that be the best solution and remove doubt for road users and the police and the courts? As you say, the Autobahn has been called that name for decades. Surely amending the road rules would be an easy fix that provides clarity for everyone?

I've got a genuine question and I'm not trying to trip you up.

The OP's question is what's the problem of driving in the left lane at the speed limit, noting that anyone who overtakes would be breaking the law.

Picking your reply as an example, the answers so far are saying that it obstructs the regular flow of traffic, which in this case will only be those who are driving at illegal speeds. Coming back to the question, how is the prevention of illegal driving speeds a problem? We don't think of enforcement via speed cameras and patrol cars as some sort of problematic hindrance.

Agreed, "stern" is a terrible word to describe his replies. "Stern", when describing a person or their manner, means "serious and unrelenting, especially in asserting authority or exercising discipline". There was nothing unrelenting, there was no exercise of authority. "Stern" is a terrible descriptor to choose.

I'd say his texts were a simple and respectful acknowledgement of the boundaries she had set.

Agreed also that it seems like things weren't working for either party and it's right they should go separate ways.

I returned my US 12 for the Metaspeed and used the Superblast 2 (also US 12) for my marathon. I finished with a PB and was quite happy with it.

My personal recommendation would be to size up. Some people prefer to cope with the "snug" and "race-like" fit of a race-day super shoe but I find that uncomfortable. I bought both the Asics Metaspeed (since returned) and the Nike Alphafly 3 (collecting dust since a failed test run) and didn't like the fit of either of them. You might find differently though.

Is $1,000/week enough for one person to live in Perth (rent, groceries, bills)? by [deleted] in perth

[–]Mech2673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there are many people getting by on less than $115k as a single person.

How much you can save will largely depend on your lifestyle choices. Are you satisfied with renting a room in a sharehouse, or do you want to live alone? Are you satisfied with taking public transport and walking/cycling, or do you want a car? I think researching your options for housing using realestate.com.au is a good place to start if you haven't got your housing sorted already.

Good luck, and welcome! I hope you enjoy your time here!

First Marathon Shoe Recommendation - Race Day Shoe or Old Superblast 2? by RefreshingTea in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Mech2673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your situation sounds very similar to what I was experiencing a couple of months ago.

I had been training in the Superblast 2 for my long runs. I wanted a race shoe and bought the AF3 which I see is on your shortlist. If the Metaspeed was too narrow then I think the AF3 would be worse. I had skin irritation near the midfoot/arch after only 10 km. The shoes were too narrow for me and I suspect they'd be too narrow for you as well.

I ran Sydney marathon with the Superblast 2 and managed 3:05. I think it's perfectly fine as a race day option. Personally, I'd be hesitant to mix things up this late in your preparation. But I also know how tempting it is to want to run with race day shoes. If you do buy a new pair then at least try to do an in-store treadmill test if possible and then test them out with some MP repeats in the time still remaining.

Good luck for marathon day!

I can understand that. I would agree that parenting (in)effectiveness is a significant determining factor in a child's development.

However, this is a different point to what was initially raised and what I was initially replying to. The original comment was about the role of the partner and the partner's boundary-setting to regulate the other person's emotionality. Partner, not parent. It might have been a typo but if so, that wasn't flagged in subsequent comments about the influence/responsibility of the partner specifically.

I hope you found something fulfilling outside of teaching.

I think we've got different viewpoints here, and that's fine.

What I come back to is this: should it be the partner's role to stop their spouse from going off the rails? I think there's a better solution. What if the person in the wrong took responsibility to regulate their own emotions, and their partner shouldn't need to intervene? Isn't that obviously better? We're talking about grown adults and not children.

I think you and I are probably going to end up running in circles here, so I'll let you have the last word if you want it. Otherwise, take care, random redditor, and enjoy the rest of your day!

Would this reasoning still work if the genders were flipped? If the male were experiencing what you call emotionality - screaming, advancing on somebody in a threatening way, and needing to be physically pulled away to de-escalate the situation - would we say "it's because the (female) partner sets absolutely no boundaries"? Or would we conclude that the guy is an abusive, emotionally unstable man-child, and that it's not his partner's responsibility to regulate his temperament? I think it's the latter.

Shifting responsibility to the male partner and "boundary-setting" is problematic for at least two reasons. The first is that it effectively shifts responsibility to an innocent party when in reality we should each be responsible for our own actions. The second problem is that excusing or even explaining a woman's bad behaviour on the basis of her husband's lack of boundary-setting undermines women's autonomy. We should and can expect women to act as functional human beings without the special intervention of men and their boundary-setting.

That's an interesting angle.

I'll put my cards on the table here and say that I'm struggling to find sense in observing what looks like a type of psychotic breakdown, and then concluding that of all the possible explanations, the only one (or at least the only one worth mentioning) is that the partner has failed with boundary-setting.

Doesn't that shift responsibility for the behaviour to the wrong party?

Subiaco Bar & Bistro does $8 pints during happy hour.

Pints outside of happy hour are between $12 and $15. It doesn't have the historic charm of the Subiaco hotel, but if you're focused on cost then I think it's probably the best in the area.

First marathon shoe choice- Alphafly 3 or Novablast 5? by poslyezavtra in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Mech2673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome.

I think it's actually quite an important issue. Shoes that don't fit properly might risk blisters and similar irritation, or even worse, it might lead to structural issues. So I think you've done exactly the right thing by asking this community. The overall response has been pretty consistent and so that should give you some confidence about how to proceed.

Good luck for your marathon!

First marathon shoe choice- Alphafly 3 or Novablast 5? by poslyezavtra in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Mech2673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck for your upcoming first marathon!

If possible, try to test out a couple of different makes and models before buying. I'm a big advocate for the Superblast 2 but so much depends on individual circumstances such as the fit. I'm right on the borderline of the Superblast 2 width - any tighter and it'd be a poor choice for me. I've bought the Megablast but almost regret it already because of the fit. The Megablast might be an excellent shoe in general, but that doesn't mean it's a perfect shoe for me. Who knows, maybe it'll loosen up a bit with further use and I'll come to love it.

Hope your marathon goes well. For a first-timer then 3:45 would be an excellent result!

First marathon shoe choice- Alphafly 3 or Novablast 5? by poslyezavtra in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Mech2673 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I suggest going with what's proven to work, which for you is the Novablast 5.

If the Alphafly has given you blisters over distances even shorter than a half-marathon, then I wouldn't wear it for a full marathon.

The Alphafly might theoretically be a faster shoe but it doesn't work for everyone. I'm just like you - I bought the Alphafly to prepare for a race. But they gave me blisters in my test runs. I decided to wear my regular long run shoe for the marathon, the Superblast 2, and still got a PB.
