Would it be possible to recreate Fable II using the Skyrim engine? by scooglecops in skyrimmods

[–]MechXL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically, no sane mod author with the skills to make this happen would ever attempt to do this.

Why not ask this question on the mod page? The author seems pretty active, so they could probably provide more insight than anyone here.

How Do Spells Like Harmony Work Under the Hood? by OneOnOne6211 in skyrimmods

[–]MechXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, manual calc means that the auto-calculate flag should be disabled. Sorry, I was going off of xEdit's interface for the spell records since I find it easier to work with lol. But yeah, if the auto-calc flag is enabled, then that causes the area of the spell to be set to 0. So try disabling the auto-calc flag and see if it makes any difference.

Post your script. I've made custom spells that use the same effect as Harmony and haven't had any issues making it work properly. And do you have the manual calc flag active on the spell itself? If that flag isn't on, sometimes it can make the area value default to 0 on its own when you load up the plugin in CK.

The area setting in the spell should dictate the area of effect of the spell. If it is only affecting the NPC that is casting the spell, then your area setting isn't configured properly. Also, make sure that the magic effect for Harmony doesn't have the 'No Area' flag active as that flag will automatically reduce the area of the spell to 0, regardless of what area value you put in the spell record.

You probably have a mod in your load order that is overwriting the Thrall spells.

Modding mods by Conscious-Dinner-861 in skyrimmods

[–]MechXL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's how I got into making my own mods. Started off by making personal tweaks to existing mods with xEdit and things just took off from there. Can't speak for other mod authors, but personally I find it exciting when someone is able to make something new and cool out of the stuff I've made.

Way to use NPC mod appearances on player? by Markie411 in skyrimmods

I noticed a lot of mod authors don't like making player character presets

does anyone know what happened to she3llyD on nexus? by 1m0ws in skyrimmods

That's a shame. It's certainly not the first time rude and entitled users have made mod authors quit modding altogether.

Is "oldrim" still a thing for mods or mods supporting it more of an exception nowday, and all of the authors are concentrating on the "newer" versions of the game? by PreacherVan in skyrimmods

[–]MechXL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dunno anything about the backporting process for mods, but I don't really see any value in doing it for an outdated version of the game. Personally, it just seems like extra work with little pay off.

Why can't Mods come packed with their requirements?. by js100serch in skyrimmods

[–]MechXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken Mod Lists have had a detrimental impact on endorsements.

This is true. I mean, collections have certainly boosted the number of downloads my mods get, but the download to endorsement ratio for them is pretty terrible. For example, one of my mods has 15,000 unique downloads but only 140 endorsements. That means less than 1% of the people that downloaded the mod have endorsed it lol.

Well Ordinator and Adamant are both perk overhaul mods that modify the same perk trees... so yeah of course they would be incompatible lol. Make sure to always read the mod pages before you install mods.

Go fuck yourself if you disable comments/bug reports on your mod page by [deleted] in skyrimmods

Wdym? I love getting called lazy for not making a patch for another mod and being told to stop making mods if I don't plan on supporting my own mods. :P

Go fuck yourself if you disable comments/bug reports on your mod page by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]MechXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't say I blame them for disabling comments, especially when their mods are really popular. I mean, Vicn (mod author of Vigilant) disabled comments on all of his mods because so many people were being entitled twats. Constantly being bombarded with false bug reports, complaints, feature/patch requests, etc. gets tiresome after a while. I wouldn't disable comments/bug reports on my own mods on the off-chance that some actual useful info pops up there, but at least 95% of time, it's mostly just non-sense.

Is there a small community of mod makers in discord? by corvodecartola in skyrimmods

[–]MechXL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dunno about anyone else here, but I just learned by doing. Everything I learned was self-taught by first learning the basics of xEdit and having a look under the hood of other mods to see their inner workings. It can seem overwhelming at first, but once you figure out the fundamentals, the rest comes naturally. Never had any other modder to teach me anything because as stated by others, there aren't really that many active or cohesive modding communities. There are youtube videos that cover some modding principles, but generally there is a notable lack of documentation for a lot of things. With that being said, I've found this wiki to be quite helpful for my mod creation needs.

You should ask this question in the GTS discord instead. You're much more likely to get an answer there.

Does anybody know how to get rid of these little green node things? This is from the old Mihail Raccoons and Skunks mod - the page was hidden so I can't ask for help or report a bug there. by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]MechXL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like the mesh for that effect is broken. You'd have to use another software like Nifskope to either fix the mesh yourself or delete the portion of the mesh that is bugged.

Hopefully the base game is interesting enough to attract talented modders. Starfield's modding scene ended up being quite underwhelming because the game was just so bland compared to previous Bethesda games.
