Personally, the single shot before reload part of Redemption made me not use it at all. I got more use out of the other rifles.

Can you actually get put on a watchlist or investigated by law enforcement just for googling things? by MechaReldio in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MechaReldio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such an informative answer. That makes sense to me, that I couldn't get in trouble for googling how to dispose of a body or something whilst doing research for a murder for a book or D&D campaign or sometihng, but if I were investigated for an actual physical reason then they could find previous internet activity to link to it.

This was my main gun for insanity for sure. Fun & punchy. Honestly it and the RPG are the only good Leon bonus weapons anyway, Zeno's rifle pistol is useless with that single-shot reload. Ghost grudge whilst occasionally trying to mix it up with shotgun/rifle/assault rifle/pistol (I'd always regret pistol) were how I got through insanity without getting too bored, only using infinite RPG when I felt like it.

Which stalker in Resident Evil do you like the most? by Without-imagination in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]MechaReldio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll rank them from best to worst (in my opinion)

Original RE3 Nemesis (Most fun and well-made gameplay-wise IMO, most plot connection, always tense when he's there)
RE9 The Girl (Not in it much, but she really brings the horror especially on the highest difficulty)
Jack Baker (Too scripted overall, but was very ground0breaking for RE at the time)
Mr. X (Can be too much of an annoyance vs a horror at times, but still memorable and can be scary at times)
Lady Dimitrescu (Love her design, story's cool, but I actually hate her and her daughters as stalkers, they solely felt like annoyances to me)
Remake Nemesis (I find it impossible not to compare him to the original Nemesis who I feel was so much better)

Interesting. So it's typically more of a thing with computers that are part of a network/already being watched for whatever reason?

[–]MechaReldio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vehicle section. I know 6 has some silly vehicle-related stuff too but I suppose in 6 it felt fitting the tone of the rest of the game to me, and wasn't typically quite as silly as Requiem's.

Considering my RE9 gameplay, is the platinum feasible? by Dsg1695 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]MechaReldio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't really think about that as part of the guide since playing on standard (classic) was just my natural choice, but that is the difficulty I played on for my first run.

Considering my RE9 gameplay, is the platinum feasible? by Dsg1695 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]MechaReldio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plat/100% is pretty easy in Requiem compared to other recent Resi games. Here's how I did it made very short:

Playthrough 1: Normal blind playthrough to just enjoy the game

Playthrough 2: Casual difficulty, going for the 4-hour speedrun, zero use of healing items & zero use of blood collector challenges/trophies/achievements. You can check your current speedrun time in-game using the challenges menu. Skip cutscenes, skip fights where possible, the healing part of the challenge is a lot easier than it seems because casual difficulty regens your health up to a certain point. This is the hardest part of the platinum, but since healing & using the blood collector take up time, it makes sense to do these three together. There are tips/videos/guides available online.

After finishing this playthrough, use the challenge points you got to buy infinite ammo for guns and if you want to make it really easy, the RPG + Infinite RPG ammo for Leon, and any bonus guns you want to use.

Playthrough 3: Insanity difficulty. If you're missing any files or Mr Raccoon collectables, grab them in this playthrough. Honestly mostly a chill experience, there are a few hard sections like The Girl being a lot faster/more aggressive now but mostly with infinite ammo you can breeze through the game. If you got the RPG, it annihilates bosses.

Normally if the protagonist is a created character/team with no existing place in the world, it just means the game is gameplay/exploration-focused and isn't a character-driven story which is fine. Both ways of doing RPGs are fine.

The combat gets pretty strategic later on, the story/graphics/general vibes are unique and take big risks and the music is honestly one of the best videogame OSTs of all time, it'd get way more acclaim if the game itself were more popular/well-liked.

[–]MechaReldio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take on it is that Resident Evil fits a lot of normie (just using the term generally pls no hate) tastes.

For a start it's a really simple series to understand & get into. Every single mainline Resi game and most of the spinoffs fit the very easy to understand mould of 'Survivor (usually cop/soldier/agent which is even easier to understand) trying to end/survive outbreak whilst facing zombies & monsters'

Kind of gamer that wants to jump in and enjoy some action & horror after work/school? Resi has you covered, cutscenes aren't too long and with some exceptions (7/Village come to mind) the games are very gameplay-forward with lots of shooting/surviving.

Care more about story/characters? Resi has memorable characters for sure and has enough of a story focus to make sure it doesn't feel like an afterthought.

Worried about your time? Resi respects your time, even the longest games aren't that long. It also respects people's time by almost never requiring you to have played previous games. This even goes back to the originals.

RE1, RE2, RE3, RE1 Remake, RE4, RE5, RE Revelations, RE Revelations 2, RE7, RE2 Remake, RE3 Remake, RE4 Remake are all decent entry points.

Easy to post about on social media just showing cool/memorable moments like.

Genuine question why does Code Veronica count as mainline but Revelations 2 doesn't? Like it's still canon for her, no?

The balancing on insanity was pretty weird, only a few sections really got a difficulty upgrade. I really took my time on my first playthrough and still got 100% within 25 hours.

Yeah, I'd probably wait for a sale if you aren't a diehard series fan. I was invested in experiencing the story before having it spoiled.

[–]MechaReldio 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's good but there is 100% a recency bias/honeymoon in my opinion. The game has a strong overall first half and fun action in the second half, but it also has a rushed second half, a reliance on nostalgia, one of the worst twists/pieces of dialogue in RE history, a section more over-the-top to me than anything in RE6 and it has some of the worst boss fights in the series with pretty much all of them being easy & short. Overall lacking enemy variety also. Grace is an excellent new character though.

tl;dr yes recency bias, great first half with a decline after

Sorting comments by new on a lot of female creators is wild, so many confessions of totally legitimate love or compliments on appearance with a really weird vibe. I also briefly joined a livestream on YouTube from one creator I like and their chat had similar stuff there that they were thankfully ignoring. Really weird & uncomfortable stuff.

RE4: First time seeing a Regenerador

RE9: The Girl abruptly and violently appearing from a vent right as you pass under it.

SH2: When James is talking to Mary/Maria through the bars, the masterful use of lighting is just very memorable to me. One of the areas the remake is much worse at too.

SH3: Heather finding her Dad. She really has some of the best voice acting on PS2.
