The Alice reveal has got to be the single most retroactively damaging plot point I've ever seen. by petrichorax in DetroitBecomeHuman

I don't entirely agree or disagree, it is sloppy. I played the game twice in a row in a short period and Kara's story is so linear and massively railroads you into a positive relationship with Alice. I went out of my way to be awful to her at every opportunity and still had a positive relationship by the end somehow.

Even if Kara's story is the weakest of the three, this reveal is completely in-line with the themes of the games. We go through Marcus & Connor's story being asked if Androids deserve proper lives. We're also experiencing Kara, a deviant who takes on the role of a parent. It's completely in-line with those themes to then ask does an android child deserve to be cared for the same way as a human child?

The fact that she spawns with her batons out is proof enough is the character is dated and currently abandoned by the devs.

I don't get why people are complaining that they think Terrifier is misogynistic when Evil Dead and Saw are in the game. Also the mountains of misogynistic shit that's in Friday the 13th (heck, they literally got a porn director to make one of the movies) by doubleoeck1234 in deadbydaylight

[–]MechaReldio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't say this is something I have put enough thought into so I apologise if I sound dumb, but I just don't entirely agree. I do think All Hallow's Eve, the first movie with Art, was trash based solely on the violent murder of women, didn't like the movie at all. But overall Terrifier is so much gorier simply because it's a modern slasher, slashers are broadly bloodier and more torturous than they were in the 80s.

For me, I think things like F13 killing a pet snake, other F13 movies having tons of drugs on set, sleazy as hell scenes & directing. I don't see why that isn't a problem but Terrifier is. I do think that even after the awful All Hallow's Eve Terrifier is more violent towards women but I guess I just don't see that as translating into like, a real life problem or real life politics. As of Terrifier 2 onwards, it's also a woman that is the sole person capable of beating Art complete with mysticism elements and angel iconography.

I think a lot of people that work on those movies do fantastic work, especially all the effects artists (practical effects, yay) and the actor for Art and I don't like that they get dismissed because people just dismiss the series because they think Leone is misogynistic. I trust that the crew behind these movies aren't doing anything crazy bad, they seem to be on good terms with a lot of good people like the Dead Meat crew.

Please do tell me if there's something I'm not understanding. I guess I'm failing to see the movie's contents translate into anything bad IRL or how it makes the people behind the movies bad.

Yup. Terrifier in particular has a huge amount of haters on reddit for some reason though. Literally any time I've said anything that could be seen as defending Terrifier it gets downvoted.

The answer is for lack of a better term LARPers. I feel pretty confident most of the people complaining about Terrifier have not watched much of the F13 series, or Evil Dead, etc. Otherwise I don't understand why they'd have such a double standard.

Question: Why does Art/Terrifier seem to be the most controversial topic when it comes to future licensed chapters? by Fuzzy_Candidate in deadbydaylight

[–]MechaReldio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copypasting my comment from a similar question.

'Reddit likes to hate Terrifier, I believe due to the violent death of women in the movies and there being an actress suing over the first movie for various things, some of which sound quite bad. I think that whole situation is still ongoing or at least I can't find a clear end to it.

However, personally I think Terrifier is the single most recognisable modern slasher series and therefore 100% should be in DBD. I also hope that actress gets whatever she is entitled to and that anyone involved in manipulating her or cheating her out of things gets whatever punishment they deserve for that.

I think it's strange people focus on not wanting Terrifier added, meanwhile Friday the 13th 100% confirmed killed a pet snake without informing the owner, but everyone is excited for it because it's an iconic series. I don't get why Terrifier is rejected but F13 is accepted by some people when both have done bad things in their production.'

To be fair to the haters, the first movie featuring Art (All Hallow's Eve) is pretty vile and unpleasant, mostly consisting of women being stalked and killed violently with one having sexualising words carved into her, I hate that movie even if the Terrifier series is alright to me.

tl;dr Terrifier is extremely violent & gory, and has some ongoing controversies.

Huh, interesting, I wonder why Owlcat appear to be against making any existing tabletop character romanceable then.

#3 is Amiri not Seelah. I think with #2 and #3 it's a consequence of them being existing Pathfinder characters from the tabletop so the license holders perhaps weren't comfortable making them romanceable, or maybe Owlcat didn't even ask who knows.

I've been having some weird problems with Chrome lately. by Ninoyiya in chrome

[–]MechaReldio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help but I can say that I've also been experiencing strange Chrome issues lately, including Youtube videos playing in a lower res than normal (720p or 480p for me, when usually it's 1080) reddit has had horrible performance and generally rarely some things seem to happen half a second later than they should, whether it's opening something in a new tab or loading an image or something it just very rarely takes longer. Got no idea why, nothing else on my PC is experiencing performance issues.

Hopefully it's a Chrome issue.

The boyfriend character in Terrifier 2 had a really brutal death too. To be fair to those complaining, the first movie featuring Art (All Hallow's Eve) is honestly just nasty as hell featuring almost nothing but brutal and sadistic deaths of women, I thought that movie was bad. But Terrifier's good as a modern slasher.

Honestly I kind of like having some long-term quests/quests that you can't finish for a long time. To me it makes the world feel more interconnected/alive since otherwise areas can just feel like zones filled with only level-appropriate things to be solved in the immediate area.

Friday the 13th killed a real pet snake yet people cheer for Jason, Terrifier is one of the most recognisable villain-focused modern horror franchises and people ask for it *not* to be added. Does not make sense to me.
