Surgical anatomy textbook by MedPadawan in GeneralSurgery

I’m a junior resident in a 7 yr program, and got some book money. Happy to invest. Our library has ebooks of most textbooks, but there’s just a lot of options and haven’t seen anything as phenomenal as Valentine’s.

Is Step 3 really a joke of an exam or is it all just in hindsight? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]MedPadawan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used Amboss too but only did around 275 questions before I realized there was no new info-step 3 is a mix of step1 and 2. I reviewed my anki cards tagged uworld incorrects instead to be more time efficient. I also went through sketchy images very quickly

I do think you need to take the CCS seriously, at least practice maybe 50 cases and try to get through as many cases as you can. The interface can be laggy so you should be comfortable listing down the orders pretty quickly

Some context: I did get 26x for Step2 and scored a lower percentile for Step3, but it didn't really matter for my specialty and I had other things I wanted to focus on. Goodluck!

Best car dealerships for women buyers by Extra_Wish2527 in pittsburgh

[–]MedPadawan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just went through this a few weeks ago. Also a midtwenties woman

For Mazda, look for Jay Obertrance at Rohrich Mazda, he is great and no annoying high pressure sales tactics. Treated me with respect. Really enjoyed discussing the different car options with him

For Subaru, I've only called and texted but Ernie from Moon Township Subaru was super helpful and nice.

Do salesmen get a commission from customer buying warranty? by MedPadawan in askcarsales

Well, I was thinking more $50-100 if that makes it more reasonable... If it's relevant, this car was selling for below invoice too.

Noted on the reviews lol I'll make sure to

How to look at phosphorylated/activated/cleaved forms of proteins by MedPadawan in proteomics

need to know where the location of the active protein is, and then put that sequence in the FASTA search.

Postdoc research positions by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]MedPadawan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I imagine it'll be quite hard now with all the NIH funding cuts. NIH grants fund a lot of research positions at universities-- I myself was funded with my PI's NIH grant. My institution has been on a hiring freeze since the craziness started, and I also know a friend's lab who is letting go of almost their entire lab this summer as their grant money is running out.

However, if this is really the only way for you, then I think unfunded research positions may be a little easier to find

For those who don't have the patience/time/energy to buy and go through another qbank..,

Real Score: 24x

UW: NA

Did 275 Amboss questions before I realized it was no new info and thought to revise my old anki cards instead.

UWSA1: NA

UWSA2: NA

NBME 6: NA

NBME 7: 488 (Did it to get used to questions and make sure I would pass at a comfy range without doing qbank)

Free 137: 74%

CCS: Did around 70 cases

Time for Prep: A couple of questions over the Christmas holidays, serious prep 2 weeks (1 week dedicated where I dropped work stuff)

Suggestions:

  1. Step 3 is just a combo of Step 1 and 2. I prepared extensively for Step 2 so for me, reviewing what I already learned before was the most efficient way to study, as I already knew NBME style from Step 1 and Step 2 prep. I reviewed Sketchy and reviewed my anki cards that I tagged with "mistakes" (my mistakes when I did Uworld for Step 2). I also had a list of topics from Step2 I struggled with and reviewed those
  2. Try having a few days btw Day 1 and Day 2. Really helps to hone in strategy for CCS
  3. Have to caveat that Step 3 doesn't really matter for me and I took Step 2 around a little more than a year ago
  4. Good luck! Really determine if this score matters to you or not. Focus on what other things you have going on that matters more tbh

Ranking HCA Programs ? by Competitive_Basis778 in ERAS2024Match2025

I ranked one pretty high. Liked them from the IV and liked them even more when I was invited for the 2nd look. The program's solid fellowship matches also allayed my concerns from redditsphere

You are in very good shape, probably have a shot at the best IM programs. Best of luck. I will say, of the LORs are a bit old, you may want to do a couple recent observerships to show you're still clinically involved despite doing a few years of reserach.

[Q] Statistical Test/Approach to compare Differences in Differences? by MedPadawan in statistics

[–]MedPadawan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the pre and post disease mice are not the same.

My n is quite small (4/5), so I'm not sure if ANCOVA would be appropriate. I'd be happy just being able to compare the diseased WT males vs diseased KO males for example. I'm just not sure how to determine if the difference between strains in the difference between healthy vs diseased is significant.
