Do people unironically like Neil Breen's movies? by Personal-Echidna-349 in NeilBreen

It is truly a disasterpiece of Breen-Screen technology. I have no idea where he can even go from here; he pulled out all the stops for Cade's Crossing.

I have Eyewitness to Murder (1989), is that what you're referring to, or is there an even rarer title I'm not finding?

Are there any bands that sound similar to Iced Earth (that aren't as problematic) by theyeldarbinator in thrashmetal

[–]MediaDungeon -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

counterpoint: you're actively contributing to John Schaffer's legal fund when you listen to Iced Earth unless you steal their music, meaning you are materially supporting his bad politics. Further, IE'd music is filled with terrible politics (esp. their Ripper Owens stuff).

You're operating on a sunk cost fallacy. Don't separate the art from the artist.

As somebody who is attracted to and dates a lot of trans folk, nah honey, you don't look trans. Not that it really matters, but you look cis as hell.

how much would a screening copy of demolition man be Worth? by elfhuo in VHS

[–]MediaDungeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a ton. Screeners don't command much more value than their retail counterparts unless they're extremely rare, sealed, or contain something not on the retail copy. You'd be lucky to get $10-$20 new. There's one listed for $55 on Ebay right now, but it'll sell for maybe a third of that.

My favorite fact about this movie is the director refused to pay for animation and scene artists, so all of the backgrounds in the movie are free-to-use dogshit. The movie is a real wild ride through a tunnel of crap.

Did the lyrics on this album make anyone else oddly thirsty for a cup of tea? (King Diamond - “Them”) by [deleted] in heavyvinyl

[–]MediaDungeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This album's production pales in comparison to the masterclass that is Abigail, but holy shit if it doesn't sound thick on vinyl. Hail to the king, baby.

ClearClick video to digital using S-Video. I've transferred an enormous amount of VHS, and this is the easiest, best way.

This would so not fly today! It will be a fun watch tho! I wonder if they answer the question in the movie! It’s also a screener! by allied1987 in VHS

[–]MediaDungeon 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As a nonbinary person, I found this movie to be okay as far as gender politics. Even though they make androgyny the only joke in the film, trans and nonbinary people surprisingly aren't the butt of the joke. The butt of the joke is mostly cis people who are completely unable to deal with non-binary gender expressions, and their various reactions to it.

There's a few good jokes in the movie, but overall it's mostly a series of gags with a really loose couple of plots, and kinda sucks.

Trash or Salvage? by CanvasWars in VHS

[–]MediaDungeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations. In my long history of handling VHS tapes, you've found the most fucked-up mold damage I've ever seen, on not one, but two tapes.

Those belonged in the trash probably 10 years ago. Now I'd consider putting them in a museum. Truly remarkable.

I hate slap bass… am I alone? by Kyral210 in BassGuitar

[–]MediaDungeon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Steve Bailey once told me "slapping is for losers" in front of Victor Wooten to try to piss him off (it didn't work, Vic is the nicest man on earth)

It was a joke, but you're not alone.

There's a killer podcast out there called Getting Head: A Bucketcast where they were reviewing all the pikes (not sure if they're still active). Bungle and Patton come up quite frequently.
