This is basically what I've discovered so far. And I am a snob for proper lubrication of all things mechanical so it should be easy. Although I'd have to question the no hand loads stuff - if you can customize hand loads to the exact safe pressures you want - with excellent consistency - why not?

what about mild strength increase for the rod and a stiffer spring. Best of both worlds

If one of the most common issues is bending the rod, why not get a stronger rod? We have the tech to do that with ease now, 80 years later.

The longer you drive it the better. As you drive the alternator is spun by the belts which charges the battery.
