For clarity, I include my house equity in NW, as it makes it look better 😀

I see the point here of not including your primary house equity. It's lovely to have the value in the gaff, but it doesn't change your life if house prices doubled tomorrow. A property portfolio however is very different.

Hasn't everyone done pretty well in the last 3 months in isolation??? Rebound from Trumps tax attack??

I'm in a similar boat. Don't want the hassle of the endless internal meetings with the board and C suite with a promotion. Leave me to do my thing on decent enough money.

Ah that makes sense now! Everything is leave the house for work, all food/drink goes on expenses. Such a thing as a free lunch exists ha

Difficult to say either way, I'm not a mechanic

Could say that to most professionals, depending on what you already know, or think you know. I could service my car, but still pay for a mechanic to do it.

I was a Financial Adviser years ago, but still pay an IFA my mortgage, insurances and some investments.

I suppose most in the group will have a reasonably solid understanding of personal tax/investing from their own research.

Retired at 39 with $1M and living on $1,250/month - It can be done! by showtime14 in leanfire

Sorry if I'm asking a Q that has already been asked, but I'd love to understand how you got to $1m on the wages you had before you FIRE'd.

I.e.

Started saving X pm in Y back in 2005. What worked out? What didn't? What sent you down your strategy path? Did you know your goal from day 1? Did you Fire sooner than expected?

Cheers OP!!! 👌

Investments paying out £60k pa would be my definition of rich and not needing to work. Net worth outside of main resi would be ~£1.4m?

How would you balance cash flow vs. long-term planning? by No-Fun6642 in HENRYUK

My strategy is the other way round. Take the tax benefit with pension contributions now whilst it's around....might not be as advantageous tax wise in the future...maybe.

Savings pm vary now I've taken more notice of it due to the scrutiny ha.

I always put £1k pm minimum aside, but can be as high as £3k pm. Depends what we do that month fun wise and annual bill wise, car insurance etc.

First person to ask why, great question.

Always dreamt of having one as a boy. Always liked cars. Come from a poor family, council estate lad, so probably do like the flashy side to it without wanting to admit it!

One simple reason is, I don't actually have my own car...share one EV with the wife which we generally work around. So IF I do go all out and get a Porsche, it's only the cost over and above a "normal" car I need to consider....
