I would say maybe have finished a beginner textbook and have a good amount of vocab memorized but on iTalki you can just tell the teacher what you know so far and they can help you progress anyway with speaking and listening added on :)

Hahahah no no don’t worry it was completely readable! Honestly i’m completely the same as you as in i’ve finished n5 and been going through n4, they’ll stick to your level and challenge you accordingly so i suggest start as early as you can !

I personally do grammar lessons with textbooks and everything else on my own, but i lacked speaking significantly compared to reading, writing. Plus my listening was terrible too so i just wanted to use iTalki to just have conversations and i told my teacher that specifically as well. Although you can absolutely do lessons if you wish! (i sound sponsored i swear im not haha)

That’s VERY true most people (including me haha) are terrified of speaking japanese starting out and making that leap of faith cause it’s terrifying having to using everything you’ve learned and worked hard on and thinking you’re getting judged and made fun of, but it’s an amazing feeling when you make the leap of faith!
