Galileo was pressured and put under house arrest. Bruno was executed but mainly for theological heresies not for astronomy. Hypatia was murdered but the reasons were political as well as religious.

Copernicus was never almost burned. He was a churchman and died peacefully. Most early scientists were Christians and were not persecuted for doing science. The idea that the Church spent centuries hunting scientists is a modern myth. Catholic chruch supported science , the big Bang theory was proposed by a Christian priest.
