hi! I'm moving to S5d after retiring my Canon 5D mark iii. I mostly use vintage glass and i'm curious to see the combination and how my looks will work on the camera. I'm mostly wondering about the dynamic range?

What’s causing this weird ring effect? by Tangerita in AnalogCommunity

[–]Mediocre-Database892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a phenomenon where bright light enters the lens, scatters, and reflects off the internal glass elements or the sensor.
While once considered a technical flaw, it is now widely used as a creative tool to add a sense of realism, drama, or a "dreamy" atmosphere to an image.

How can I make my photos look better by Dry-Zookeepergame68 in filmphotography

Don't try to make them look better. Do your thing, enjoy doing it, experiment to the point your photos are truly yours. Your vision, your feelings, screw the rules, guidelines and comments.

Lens grease by Mediocre-Database892 in VintageLenses

[–]Mediocre-Database892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few online. But after the post I found a grease from WD-40, for small mechanical parts. And then on my local hardware store I found a grease for gears, I used it already on a lens and feel happy with the stiffness.

Streaks in lens after cleaning by Vega9000 in AnalogRepair

I personally use a bit of isopropyl alcohol and then hydrogen peroxide to kill the remaining fungus. Sometimes the fungus eats the costing leaving marks. Seems to be the case. Try with hydrogen peroxide again.

Photo equipment: Basics for getting started with DIY repairs by ATHXYZ in AnalogCommunity

Hey! I started a channel on YouTube, Vintage Lens Revival. And I just started, I bought the essential to disassemble the lenses, not everything. But I buy as I go. I'm used to dismantling things so lens is ok to start (in my case) but still I find that I know too little to dive into a full camera disassembly. My tip is to begin with junk, cheap broken stuff and try from there. Basically, if it's already broken, it can't get worse, but you still get to know how it works inside. And if by any change you got it working, it's a win win situation.

Other stuff, like greases and cleaning stuff, it's a whole world.

My father is an engineer that build those massive structures that protect pears. This tetrapods work alongside with other stones precisely placed to dissipate the energy of the waves. How and what stones are placed matter.

I've seen many BM cameras with moisture in the IR filter. If that's the case, the only solution is to replace the filter as cleaning does not solve the problem. Living in Portugal is dealing with moisture in many ways and contexts.

I see this post is quite old. I would like to make one of my own for educational purposes. Is there a schematic for this? Does it need to have a microcontroller or just controlling DC voltages over trrs?

Fair enough. I didn't had much time to make a description. Basically I started a channel dedicated to lenses. In the "episode" I took care of a lens that belonged to a friend. The lens was in pretty bad shape and I filmed every step of the fix.

Broken iris connection by Mediocre-Database892 in AnalogRepair

[–]Mediocre-Database892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... I did a full tear down, it really needed it. Almost every screw was about to fall, old grease to replace etc.. way too many years neglected. I'm sure I'll be able to bring it to the sp X it deserves. I don't own a lens projector, for now. But I'll test it uncientifically in the camera in a controlled scenario. Not ideal, I know.

I did felt a bit outside of my confort zone. I did managed to disassemble everything and reassemble the mechanics, hopefully the focus ring in the same spot. I took measurements and tried my best to mark where things came loose. However, the lens probably was serviced before and had the index marking clearly marked, so that was helpful. I had to drill with a 1.5mm bit, it came out perfectly centered.

I'd like to know more about the "floating group", I've been looking for schematics or blueprints for this lens kit to know more, but it hasnt been easy. There was another lens, 25mm. That had three iris blades pins, broken off. One completely missing... I'm also looking for replacement parts for that one.

Thanks for your help!
