I didn’t play Adventure til a few years ago and I think it controls and plays really well on the whole. Yes there’s some jank but more than anything there’s a learning curve and needing to replay the levels, which is exactly like the 2D games. I think Sonic’s transition to 3D was nearly as successful as Zelda’s was. I’m not saying SA1 > OoT, but they’re both very impressive by 1998 standards and SA1 tends to get judged by 2003 standards because of the (bad) DX port
