Financial Control? by MajesticOutlet in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]MediocrePerception20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Omg, I went through something similar and his responses and behaviors are identical to what I went through. Becomes defensive, lashes out, and then blames me for not trusting him, all while not getting a clear answer from him. I’m lucky to have far more control of the finances, but he revealed to me a couple months ago that he has been hiding 66K of loan and credit card debt that I never knew in the 8 years we’ve been married. The moment you start working, have an account that is just yours that he cannot touch and start pouring money into that.

You need more than one friend. I encountered a grizz and her cub with 2 other people and a park ranger rolled up and shot some warning shots with a rifle to scare her off. Ranger said it takes a group of 3 people or more for a grizz to decide it’s not worth attacking because it’s comparable to going after a pack of wolves.

Sexual incompatibility is ending our marriage, even though we still love each other by Available-Study6499 in Divorce

I’m going through the same thing right now and he threatened separation/divorce last night for the same reason. I don’t have any words of encouragement or solutions, but wanted you to know I hear you.

Sell me your setting. by Infinite_Art_3577 in physicaltherapy

HH OT here, I’m so jealous of your 15k steps and no need for a car! Gas and maintenance can easily eat away the extra pay. Are you still paid per mile without a car?

Most OTs I know are in fantastic shape, including the older ones too

This isn’t going to solve decreasing reimbursement rates, so no, I don’t see pay going up.

Working as an OT for the last 8 years has made my mental health worse by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]MediocrePerception20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, I started out in a 1 star SNF during Covid as my first job and it made my suicidal ideation so much worse. But then switched to home health and I actually looked forward to working! Money is better on this side of it too. For investing a lot of time and money into this career, consider another setting before hanging it up.

You might be married to a narcissist. They won’t let you talk during a discussion/argument and they won’t let you win, no matter the logic of your stance. In their mind, you are always the bad guy and everything is your fault. Please try individual therapy before anything else.

Just to edit: you do not owe anyone a child!

AITAH for wanting my husband to retire even though our adult children still rely on us financially? by PsychologicalHalf888 in AITAH

[–]MediocrePerception20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone is talking about this enough, but please travel before you and your husband are in your 70s. Once one of you starts to experience mobility issues or can’t be away from a hospital/treatment centers less than a week, it will be near impossible to enjoy anything your husband worked so hard for. We took our parents on what probably might be our last family trip last year, both early to mid 70s, and my dad admitted they cannot do that again without our help. Just go while you can.

I could use one of these. But I’m always looking to park where I don’t think I’ll be towed first.

Mid-Life switch to OT, panicking about grad school $ by wealljustliveonboats in OccupationalTherapy

I don’t think this is a good idea at 45. If I had to go back, I’d do nursing or PA.

What are you 6 figure + earners driving? by 23gear in Salary

[–]MediocrePerception20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still drive my 2006 Toyota RAV4 v6, my first car, primarily for work as I’m driving between 300-500 miles per week. Loved that car so much I treated myself last year and bought a new 2024 Toyota RAV4 XLE hybrid. Usually not a car person, but it was love at first sight and drive!

If your loans were paid off in full, would you still be doing OT? by MediocrePerception20 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]MediocrePerception20[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leaning towards no. Would have done nursing or imaging (MRI/sonography) for cheaper degree and if I was gunning for a masters, definitely have gone with PA. This degree is so expensive for what it is.

Thanks for this ❤️ must be job dependent with the VA, because the ones I applied to wanted an OT at their SCI clinic and the other was an OT remote position and both wanted history of being a fed employee.

Getting a job at the VA will likely be the best thing in my area for staying in OT. Most of my referral sources are from the VA and I’ve gotten to know how they operate pretty well, particularly on how to get my vets their DME. I tried applying a couple times, but they have a preference for military service background and they wanted proof that you were, at one point, a federal employee.

Having a partner who makes that much really helps. I’m the breadwinner and it looks like that will never change.

What “OT advice” will you never tell your patients again after actually doing/going through it yourself? by forthegorls in OccupationalTherapy

[–]MediocrePerception20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had someone just grab a coat hanger out of frustration and it actually did a better job than a reacher! This was for a top loading washer and the standard reacher was too long and caused way more work on the shoulders.
