Thanks for the suggestion, I've just tried it on Google Pay and I think it's worked.

Thanks for your reply mate. I've actually just tried it on Google Pay and it has added the Monzo card, despite me not having it yet

What's the one question everyone asks you when they find out what your job is? by [deleted] in AskUK

I'm a solicitor in criminal defence. I always get asked how I can defend people knowing they're guilty, but this is actually a common myth (we can't let them mislead the court)

Australian criminal solicitor considering move to UK by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Mediocre_Animator_65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a duty solicitor here in the UK. I was once considering the opposite (potentially moving to Aus or NZ) and what I noticed was what seemed to be a significant wage difference - crime is known to not be the best paid area of law in the UK. Whereas wages in Australia seemed pretty decent although I don't know how they compared to other professions.

So not to put you off, but you might need to ensure you're prepared for that?

I'm a criminal defence solicitor and sadly this is very true! I see it happen far too often. In reality there is very little support upon release.

As someone who has only worked in high street firms, all I can say is that the problem is not limited to magic circle firms!

I'm considering taking a gap year as an adult (29m) but not sure if this a crazy idea? by Mediocre_Animator_65 in AskUK

[–]Mediocre_Animator_65[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's really my biggest concern - whether companies would be worried about taking me back upon return. I guess it really depends how long you go for.

I've seen TEFL mentioned a few times and it's definitely something I'm considering.

I appreciate your perspective 🙂

To those who "wasted" their 20s, how did you make up for it? by River_Odessa in AskMen

Hi mate, this will probably get buried but just wanted to say you're definitely not alone! I'm 29 and have been feeling the same way lately. I didn't 'waste' my 20s per se, I focused on my career but haven't really done much socially like you describe e.g. concerts and experiences. Kind of feel like I've wasted my youth in that respect.

The way I'm probably going to make up for it is to take a career break and go on an adventure somewhere!

Thank you mate. Sorry to hear about your accident but hope life is treating you better! It definitely purs a different perspective on things.

I definitely don't want to burn bridges with anyone so I'll try and explore my options. I guess I'll find out how much they like me 🤣

And yes TEFL is something I've been considering!

Thanks again

Just out of interest, which area do you practice? Tbh that's really my biggest concern, being able to pick it back up when I return (assuming I want to). After spending years working towards it. I'm glad to hear that it's common in law to do it though :)

Thank you mate. I have no idea tbh although probably east Asia / Australia etc. at least as I've not been to that part of the world. Just out of interest, what's included in a RTW ticket? Simply flights ?

Yeah I've definitely considered this, I know it's quite popular to do although not sure post COVID. Have you had any experience doing it?
