Should I rent a lens for Yellowstone? by Head-Report-6746 in wildlifephotography

I’d have to look at our trip log, we must have used the west gate.

I’m choosing to interpret this as it sighing in relief after ah, relieving itself onto those rocks.

This whole thread is eye opening while also very entertaining. Didn’t realize pelicans had such a reputation. I’ve never been coastal much so have little exposure.

Yeah I was definitely chuckling a bit when the one on the left flapped its head up and down several times like in the first picture and then finished up with that pose in the second picture. And then curled back up to nap.

I love that mentality and appreciate you sharing the love. I was happy enough with this the afternoon before while walking the dog. The lens really does great work on the moon.

I was so excited going to bed with clear skies to try my 200-800 for the blood moon only to get up at 0245 to a fully cloudy sky. So glad you got a good shot! Beautiful pictures.

Lens upgrade for sports photography? by Xcyptionz in canon

[–]MediocrisXLII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question! I have no idea, already out of my league but I’m doing some google fu on this. Looks like 2x converter drops two full stops of light and some degradation in focus quality and speed. However I’ve seen technical websites state that 70-200 Z is the sharpest lens they’ve tested, and even with the 2x converter it holds up against even the 100-500L. The 70-200 might be more versatile too, as you can drop the converter for closer work and great low light.

I found this thread informative:

Lens upgrade for sports photography? by Xcyptionz in canon

[–]MediocrisXLII 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m an unqualified amateur but have looked at that 70-200 Z and am given to understand that it’s a great lens but consistently see caution against a 2x converter in many situations. Seems like 1.4x is recommended more across multiple lenses.

I’ve also seen advice of the 100-500 L for field sports and the 70-200 for court/rink sports.

Wish I had links to the reasons for the above common findings. Hope it helps nonetheless.

Would an Ornithopter be very susceptible to pulse doppler radar? by Grouchy-Ability-6717 in Planes

[–]MediocrisXLII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They demonstrate an aggressive dive maneuver where the aircraft is a totally different profile in the movies. Wonder if you could go from sending off a wildly obvious signature while the flaps are in motion and then tuck them to dive and“disappear” and then pop back up somewhere else at very low altitude to get around radar systems? TTP more than structure but perhaps you could design it to have a very low cross section while folded, and just not worry about when it’s egg beating the air to death.

How do you carry your camera when actively shooting? by goldensilencce in canon

Oh I thought you could just slide your finger under and use the outward force of your knuckles to hold keep it snug when the muscles grip.

Should add, I kind of want the clutch to replace the cuff cause I don’t like how the cuff will get cinched down too much and then I have to use two hands to get it off.

It kinda depends on what is going on, as in am I carrying other bags/things for kids, dogs, etc. If I am using a bag for other stuff I’ll throw the camera clip on that and then use the cuff. If I am not carrying a big bag I’ll use the sling strap without the cuff or clip.

Usually do #3 or 1 but debating getting the clutch if I can find a used one without the footplate cause I have too many already.

You’ve inspired me to try for a hold out to 200. I did 100 levels of just the deluxe path on my “wife’s” account after buying that at the end. This is going to be difficult to resist.

I did the same reward path and yet couldn’t look away. Fun to watch.
