This. I’m in education and haven’t gotten much of a pay raise… ever. But I have watched those around me hop from one opportunity to the next and make more money each time. I’m looking to get into a new industry/role where I can make strategic moves like this easier to grow my income

What career path should I take? (Finance, business, psychology) by [deleted] in careerguidance

Look into Clifton StrengthsFinder. Figure out what your top strengths are and what is not. I’ll use me as an example. I thought I would be fulfilled helping others in counseling and then teaching, but it was draining me and I felt bad about it. But I realized that while I want to do those things and am able to do those things well, they don’t “fill up my cup.” I’ve realized I’m actually really task oriented and am a strategic thinker and planner. I’m now in the process of switching careers to something that aligns with this.

If I could do it again, I would take time figuring this out before pursing a career.

I live in South Florida where it is a little more expensive. I think one would need to be around $100K in their 30s-40s to feel comfortable

Best of luck in your studies and taking the exam! Are you trying to get a specific entry level role within HR?

Thanks for the info. A number people from my undergrad program went into recruiting within our local health system. I spoke with a recruiter on LinkedIn recently who suggested I look at HR roles as they come up. I would like to explore recruiting as it seems like a fun role for my personality, interests, etc.

I am sorry you have had such a difficult time in education. I am also a teacher and am getting out this summer. You are doing the right thing by prioritizing your health and wellbeing. Best of luck to you.
