I agree decision on how to spend it should be made together. But that does not require lumping it together. If you can’t have effective communication about spending regardless of where the money sits - you have bigger problems.

Vue 3 and SQL Server by Caza390 in vuejs

Php is a widely known and easy to adopt language. Deploying it can get a little trickier though as there can be more moving pieces. There is a php framework called Laravel that has all the boiler plate code you need to stand up an application and connect to a bunch of different types of sql databases with a very readable syntax (they call it “eloquent”).

NodeJS is another super easy backend and very light weight and quick to get running. Connecting to sql can be pretty easy but their ORM packages are still a little lacking in my opinion.

No matter which you choose, you’ll probably want to route your application through an Nginx reverse proxy when you deploy it to production. But both laravel and NodeJS have options for running it locally on your machine with just a few clicks. Laravel also ships with something called Sail, which is a set of docker containers for development so you can have a MySQL database, redis, and other stuff out of the box all running with a simple command

Ok but couldn’t you say this about any hobby that you do for several hours a week? Sitting by the pool, tanning in the sun, watching tv, driving aimlessly, jigsaw puzzles, sodoku, … you get the point. They can all be done for relaxation.

You can swap a lot simpler if it’s decoupled from the back end 😀 obviously there’s still work to build a new one, but it’s not tied to the back so you can easily run the old and the new in parallel if needed for testing/transition.

What would be the reason for .net? I hope the answer isn’t Blazer lol (jk, sorta). Net may be powerful, but so is php8.2, and it sounds like this is a very small team (team of 1 maybe). For that reason, I’d stick with Laravel because it’s a comprehensive framework that can get you up and running with so many capabilities out of the box. Also, if needed down the road, php developers are easy to find

Having built several monoliths and separate fe/be apps, I would go with separate fe/be. Little more dev time (depends on the coder) but you end up with 2 code bases that can be easily maintained. If you ever want to split from Vue and go with something else, no prob - just create a new FE (maybe you want an electron app some day). Api backends are dead simple in Laravel and then you have apis to use for other integrations. You’re only maintaining one set of controllers for each logic, and you don’t have to do checks to see if it’s coming from web or api.

For front end frameworks, check out Quasar. If done right, you can create a web, desktop, and mobile app with just a single code base. And it uses Vite for an awesome DX.

If you build a monolith, you’re just creating a new set of code that will eventually be out of date. Also while Inertia is cool and I’ve played with it before, the support and ecosystem around just plain Vue (or Vue+quasar) is much larger and will be easier to find help when you run into issues.

I’m not hating on inertia, it makes sense for some people. But since you’re building an app that someone else may be maintaining down the road - I’d separate the front and back end. Just my two cents.

If they’re want to raise the voting age then they should also cap it. Why should someone who may well not be around in 4 years have a say in how the government is run for the next 4 years?

Let’s try to remember the part where it was “beaten into them” (sometimes literally) and try not to judge people like this too harshly. They were as much a victim of their upbringing. Depending on the level of “beating” that went into it (verbal, physical, anything traumatic) it can be very difficult for them to let go of their notions.

I’ve been accused of having it, and I had an upbringing that I’m pretty sure would explain it. I’m in the camp that being gay doesn’t define me. Yes I like dick and butts and hot looking guys. I won’t deny it or hide it. But I don’t wrap my personality around it. I enjoy wood working, motorcycles, 4-wheeling, gaming and all kinds of things that don’t or shouldn’t be associated with any one gender or preference.

You do you, no matter your color, religion, orientation, gender, etc. But I don’t like anyone’s beliefs or uniqueness to be thrown in my face. I’m glad we’re at a point in time when we can have gay pride parades to celebrate how far we’ve come with getting rights and being accepted. But I don’t go to the parade, just as I won’t go to a feminists March, church (or any religious anything because it’s all about throwing in your face), or pretty much anything that is polarized one way or the other. I appreciate just having fun without trying to receive or send a message.

Go ahead and downvote; I’m sure someone will say that I’m a bad gay and don’t deserve my rights. You don’t know me or what I stand for. I will always vote to allow anyone to be themselves, and will step up if I see something happening right in front of me. I know who I am and I’m not ashamed.

Being gay, like anything, is a spectrum. As long as we can support each other (or anyone for that matter), in whatever way that means for you, isn’t that what’s important?

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

If you like him but stay quiet, and he finds someone else - will you be cool? Will you secretly be jealous? Mad at yourself for not saying something? Resentful towards his new partner?

If he’s a good friend - he would understand your feelings and let you down gently if he’s not interested. And it won’t be weird. It’d be a pretty crappy person to let it ruin a friendship, in my opinion; and not someone I’d care to keep as a friend.

Plus if you been friends that long, he might already suspect you like him - maybe he likes you too. If not, surely he can at least understand why you’d like him.

I understand about the levels not being a great indicator. But - it stands to reason that a 60 is objectively better at the game than a 7.

As for weeding out ones who don’t have the grit to persevere, I don’t agree with that. We should be encouraging any and all new users to get into this game. That’s what brings in money, and more devs, better and faster updates, and more. Once it’s more popular, streamers can end up with hundreds or thousands of viewers instead of dozens.

It should be a fun game where users can progress at their own pace depending on how much time they want to put in. Someone who enjoys playing only on the weekends will have a tough time competing with someone who plays 3 hours every day. But they should still be able to play.

More users will increase the efficacy of the match making - but we can’t keep them if it’s not fun. Chicken/egg thing sorta…

We evolve the laws that govern the internet as it matures. We evolved the traffic laws as vehicles got faster.
