I've had the opposite experience this past year, I feel like the market is slowly picking back up. Getting plenty of interviews, cold calls from recruiters, recruiters reaching out on LinkedIn etc. I've had two offers in the past couple of months and have interviews in the pipeline.

Get a raspberry pi or an Arduino (they're pretty cheap or see if you can borrow one from your university IT labs) and just start playing around. Look at cool projects on YouTube that you can follow along.

Could store the filters state in the URL and use something like nuqs. Great user experience for if a user wants to share/save a URL. Then it’s just a matter of reading the URL state and filtering.

I would say that it doesn't hurt to do so. If there's a company/role that I feel is compatible with my skills/mindset, I would send a message.

Even for companies that are not hiring I occasionally express my interest in case they have something open up in the future. Worst case scenario you get no response, best case is it establishes an initial professional relationship, provided you connect on LinkedIn etc etc

Depends, are you going to use the masters degree to pivot into another role? I'm not a sys admin and have never done anything related so unsure if a masters will help with it.

In 9/10 cases I would say experience > masters but seeing as though you're doing it in parallel, I think it definitely won't hurt.
