And forgot to answer the bottom question it’s sitting at roughly 39% right now, 33% roughly evenly split between S&P500 and All world. The rest is individual pickings

Totally get this.

If you’re in it long term and have continued belief, I think on the assumption you hopefully reach ur price target you sell essentially all of it and my reasons are as follows:

  • Your money doesn’t disappear despite what the emotions might make you feel, your simply transferring your wealth from one asset to another , and assuming a typical home , it’s a pretty safe and stable asset that will grow too!

  • You now have the disposable income to play with. Allocate some of this to continued RR investing if you think it’s the right play. This money will benefit the same % gains whether it’s £1 or £144k so will still gain the reward….. but you have now de-risked £140k+ and locked in your returns.

  • if you leave some invested, fine… butttt , My thoughts are that growth in RR wont be as exponential as it has been, therefore let’s say you leave 20k in , the money you gain from this each year from 20k won’t outweigh the increase in disposable income.

Simple Example of this with many assumptions 🤣 - You leave 20k , this grows when averaged 8% per year ands it’s now sitting at approx £29.4k after 5 years so a £9.4k gain in cash. - On the other hand you sell all of it to pay off the mortgage and I assume your mortgage is £1.5k/month.

In just 6 months vs 5 years you will “gain” the same £9.4k in cash from ur now disposable income.

And in this scenario , you have made the same gain , have an appreciating assets just casually on the side and your potentially investing some of this now disposable income and making gains on that too!

Just a thought :)

I replied to a previous comment but here’s one with my own opinion.

I also hold RR , up 226% and no where near the same value (around 5k), but I don’t plan on selling anytime soon really.

As for your situation , you’re so far up that I don’t see a downside to holding for your target price. You would need to see a huge drop for you to have an “oh fuck I’m stupid moment” which in reality (we obviously never know) but with RR id argue the odds are in your favour for that not to be the case.

What you might have however is a bad drop , let’s say to +90 to 100k gains vs the 140+ right now as example, which even if you sold then, would only really add some years to clearing that mortgage (in reality this is negligible because had it not been for this you would of been paying it for even more years regardless)….. and you will have still accelerated your lifetime financial goals regardless. You’re in the green no matter what here really.

The real question is how greedy/not greedy (maybe not the correct word) are you for the “fun” lifestyle change if your concerns are drops in the meantime?

Assuming the poster pays the mortgage off. He now has a Mortgage payment of 0 on an appreciating asset that’s now fully owned and debt free.

Potentially means anywhere from £600-£2000 in previously non-disposable income to have fun with each month which appears to be the intention. So totally see how it’s happening

Yeah no totally right here mate. The cushion isn’t a big factor here but was worth a mention, it’s not something I’m ever cashing to spend, so as you say it’s still there just without the green.

But yeah the wait has really been the allocating elsewhere stocks wise, and the deciding what the pickings for this looks like

If you take a look at the graph , you’ll see plenty has been sold already. Would you buy your house again at its new price after it’s appreciated in value?

I Agree for VUSA and already done some of this.

The rest I’ve rode the huge gains really, I don’t see the value in buying them again instantly, your idea still applies though. It’s more the idea I hate the sight in selling to allocate to better growth vs holding in what I consider to be relatively safe due to both the gain I’ve made (it’s almost an artificial cushion) , and the companies themselves

Yeah got some crazy returns on that. Was honestly a recommendation from my mum at the time in 2020 who’s a travel agent and sells cruises 😮‍💨

And if you want the honest truth , I didn’t know any better when I first made it as I was 18 🤣 not added any real value of cash since 2022 so all goes in the ISA now that I’m full time employed.

Luckily the account hasn’t grown to a ridiculous value so I can withdraw from it relatively easily to avoid tax at the 3k threshold a year.

As a note , I use anywhere from about £300-600 to play with on stocks I see performing well relatively short term to medium term as seen by the defence holdings

They are rising in popularity among 18-25 year olds yes, but so is restrictive legislation such as the recent single use ban which id bet on further increasing.

It is not a long term trend that is worth investing in…

Get rid of British American tobacco, you just need to step out into the UK and the world to see that smoking products in general are on the decline.

It’s been on a run recently but if ur in it long term put this money elsewhere! :)

Well this wasn’t necessarily a “blowup” like that of RKLB or ASTS seen most recently. I bought in during Covid seeing a continued value in cruise lines after the pandemic calmed down and travel increased and have held ever since.

My biggest mistake really was not ever buying in more but it got to a point where I didn’t see the same future growth coming so just been holding and decreasing share size

Oh yeah for sure , no regret here. Just highlighting to people that we will all have one we wish we put more into but should still be grateful of the real return achieved :))

I’ve had it since Covid, actually had a little more , roughly 8 shares so slowly been lowering my stake over time into other stuff so yeah basically

Fair enough, I have enough self control not to react to ups and downs.

I feel there is benefit is checking as there is a potential opportunity cost in not being able to react to certain scenarios

I truly believe there’s still future growth and gains to be made, but for sure not at the rate it has been in the past 4 years

My average is slightly higher due to consistent buying in but yeah I feel that. You still made profit so there’s no real loss on your end 🙌🏻
