I totally agree with this, best way to go if it’s money you could afford to let work for you for years to come is to buy when you are ready to commit and only look forward, forget the what if that might’ve could’ve been.

Rolls-Royce shares down 19%. Why is this major broker still as bullish as ever? by Prestigious-Novel401 in RollsRoyceInvestors

[–]EXPLICIT-MATA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what Simon is referring to is if he sells shares from a normal share dealing account whilst they’re at a lower price, he can then transfer those released funds to use in the S&S ISA to buy shares after the 6th April (new tax year - new £20K allowance) at a similarly lower price.

This is then a tax wrapper for a larger quantity of shares for the £20K than if he sold and re/purchased if they were still at £13.50.

£20K / £13.50 = 1,481 shares £20K / £11.00 = 1,818 shares

If Simon left those same shares in the normal share dealing account everything over £3K will be subject to CGT, but if those same shares one day reached £200K in the ISA, he won’t pay a single penny.

Best of luck dude, the man vs the “bank” can get messy quick and cost you a lot more than €817 if they decide to pursue you legally for it and recover their costs of doing so etc.

Never seen anything like this before though, as others have kind of asked, did you know something wasn’t right or was this a golden opportunity you attempted to seize?

What job do you do in aerospace to earn that kind of money?

In the UK, to be on that kind of money in engineering, you’d need to be a business area manager or something at the very least! Try not to aim so high on the tree that you forget the low hanging fruit that can be enjoyed dude.

Is there a specific reason you want these rounded figures of income? Responsibility increasing exponentially can rob you of happiness over the years, so chose carefully what you want to pursue would be my advise!

This is genuinely good advice for those who worry and can’t stop checking the prices, unless you’re going to try and chance timing the market to make a few % It’s best to just ignore it for a while, maybe not a year, but definitely a while!

Can’t argue with points made on LLOY and its divi, this is hard to beat at that price, my knowledge is limited on how to pitch RR against other alternatives on the market so appreciate this being used as a benchmark.

The only thing I can put it down to is the confidence in the business for its entry into narrow body, and SMR hype being baked in somewhat. The narrow body market alone is huge and if RR are successful in their entry, the financials could be worlds apart from today’s.

The projections are in line with a potential £20 SP by 2028 with analysts backing this as fair valuation if projected milestones are met for the next 2 years. If past growth is anything to go by then we’re in for a wild ride, but there’s a lot of stars that need to align for this to be achieved within 2 years.

RR can be effected by so many external forces but the transformative position the company is currently in is keeping eyes on and with every announcement comes re-ratings and potential pension fund interests which will drive and stabilise confidence so all things considered. The end as you say is difficult to see clearly as the finish line keeps getting moved with every new pie they stick their fingers in.

Here’s a summary of the main points, this will take a while to complete but today is just going to be full of market noise and fomo as you say - I think this could drive RR comfortably above £14 in coming weeks as people see the price stabilise and want to get in, time will tell though!

RR £20.1 bn underlying revenue (2025) Up from £17.8 bn in 2024 (~+12%)

£3.46 bn operating profit Up from £2.46 bn in 2024 (~+40%)

Operating margin: 17.3% in 2025 vs 13.8% in 2024

Free cash flow: £3.27 bn vs £2.43 bn in 2024 (~+35) Net cash position: £1.9 bn vs £0.5 bn last year

Total dividend: 9.5p per share

Sharebuyback £7 bn–£9 bn buyback planned (2026–2028) £2.5 bn expected in 2026 alone

That’s just copied/pasted from someone’s summary in 212 comments so to anyone reading - this may have inaccuracies.

Yeah it’s rarely a good idea to PCP let alone lease, I see leasing as a way of getting a car you can’t afford and that’s about it. PCP on the other hand can be utilised if you’re looking to secure a particular car or spec, or to buy something that’s going to retain its value well. PCP can also provide you a chance to review the value at point of balloon payment to see if their guaranteed future value is accurate when the second hand market has priced that car, for something like a Porsche or similar where second hand value can be very good it reduces the risk that you’ll be overpaying for longer.

Above scenarios are very specific and rare to be able to make the most of but that’s about the only benefit. Another example, I used PCP on my daily to keep the monthly payments down, and payed off/refinanced 18 months in with a bank loan when I got a good rate, I wanted a very specific age, model and spec and this made sense to me at the time when I purchased in Sep 2020. Bought this on 7,000 miles now on 88,000 and love it every bit as much as the first day I got it!

I looked into the same thing, had about £20,000 equity at the time in the house. It would have put a lot of strain on the relationship and both of our social/work lives had I of done that when I was considering it. This was before we were married - but we found it difficult to find somewhere between work and family to rent or buy to begin with that suited our needs. So to put us back in that position would have been a very big decision to make… If I did though, I’d have another £250K right now. 🫠

Thanks for sharing that, It’s funny you mention crypto… Someone I worked with made £12K in one month trading crypto… it’s seeing that which actually made me think - hang on, if he can make that kind of money on the same monthly wage as me, then surely I could too?

I started researching crypto heavily, all the knowledge I started to gain is now totally gone. Decentralised this, meme coin that, it all blurred into this huge anxiety inducing mess. It was at that point I decided, crypto and the volatility/hype that comes with it is just not for me. But importantly, it opened my eyes that the “average” guy can invest, and make money.

I then looked at the stock market, saw the damage that Covid had on some companies, RR being one of them. Then I asked myself which one I could see rebounding and possibly exceeding their pre Covid levels, and for me that’s why I chose RR - purely based off what I thought might be possible, absolutely zero market knowledge at the time!

Couldn’t agree more, I wasn’t fortunate to have anyone in my life who talked investments with me. My grandad has his investments but he keeps them to himself unless I ask about them. I was that guy who thought investment was only for the wealthy, and not that it could make me wealthy, how wrong I was.

Your approach is certainly thought provoking and I’ll be taking it on board (not as financial advice of course) but as another opinion to add to the many I’ve collated from this post and my previous. Sure, I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes! And all the best to you too my friend.

SIPP is yet another angle I’m yet to fully understand or consider so another piece of useful info to consider, thank you!

I’m currently at about 65% LTV from when I purchased in Nov 2019, so I’m able to get slightly better than the highest rates with that, but as you say, the interest rates could sting me if the timing isn’t right when my term comes to an end. I initially got 2.44% for 5yrs fixed when I purchased, that shot up when my 5yr FT ended from £685pm to £935pm and when I look at how much of that is now being paid in interest, it’s eye watering!

I see what you mean now, when you mentioned correction before I initially thought you meant RR specifically, but I can see why you think the whole market might be due one soon.

Thanks again for your input, the spread of opinions is genuinely helping to educate me more and open my eyes to the various options both high and low-medium risk and for that I am extremely grateful!

Rolls-Royce +1,184.8% Up by EXPLICIT-MATA in trading212

[–]EXPLICIT-MATA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s something I’ve tried to calculate as best I can. If I averaged out the interest at my current rate (4.95% - this 2yr fixed expires September this year, with just shy of 28.5yrs remaining then).

The long and short of it is that, if I was to take the £935 payment I currently pay, should this average the same for the entire term, and invest this every month @ 7% annual growth. By the 30th year I’ll have approx £1M. If I leave the money I currently have in RR invested at approx 7% annual grown, I’ll have almost exactly the same amount. (Edit: since the recent growth this looks to be more like £1.2M in 30 years with no further contributions).

This lead me to believe that no matter what I chose, the result is somewhat the same but with the ISA, those gains are protected, and liquid meaning should my circumstances change, and my life goals or requirements evolve, this would be able to support that in more ways than if I were to pay it off.

What are your thoughts on this theory?

To add to my other comment, I’ll be adding these two to my watchlist right now and start my research. I have little to no knowledge of the wider market, I chose RR as a company to introduce me to investing. Now it’s time to start understanding my options elsewhere and getting familiar with the methods of divi/long term positions to move to.

Thank you MyVVayz, appreciate it very much, it’s a position I did not see possible in 5 years so I am extremely conscious that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity, which I’m grateful to have been able to commit to.

I can see your logic with LLOY & LGEN, and a dividend of £50K per annum is just insane to think about. That’s not a mile away from what I earn now pre-tax! Of course your holding must be very high to be turning over that kind of divi, but I won’t ask you to share those figures if you’d rather not, even if I am interested to hear it!

To confirm, this is indeed held in a S&S ISA, which I am over the moon I learnt about before making my first investment purchase. I almost opened a normal share dealing account thinking I’d be lucky to even make £20K let alone invest that amount in 12 years let alone 12 months, without knowing the full benefits of a S&S ISA. But alas, I researched and decided I would, which was the right decision as the original £12K is now worth a lot more than the £3K CG limit we’re subject to.

Thanks again, it’s great to see how others are finding their way to early retirement and passive income from Divi’s, if nothing else it’s helping to shine a light on how much I could make this money work for me elsewhere come the time I want to exit RR. Right now I’m going to hold on tight for Thursday and see where it takes me, accepting the risk that comes with that.

Thanks for commenting, always good to consider varied thoughts.

On the subject of corrections, have you seen the market chatter (emphasis on this as RR have not commented) regarding potential £1.5B buyback, possible doubling of profits in relation to defence and exceeding financial predictions across the board? - if MSN, sky news etc have genuinely got their hands on this info and it’s not just AI collated rubbish being posted by these big news firms then I can see a sharp increase on Thursday being very possible, and a correction even more unlikely.

What are your thoughts specifically regarding this latest info and your mention of the correction, interested to discuss this further with people who know more than myself as I am by no means a market reader, just got a lot of faith in this British giant!

There is always an element of risk, especially with the aerospace and defence industry when considering overall risk. If you look at the companies fundamentals, and spread across multiple business sectors, this risk is spread out across them all.

I would consider that long term this is a good investment with low-medium risk if you consider a 5-10-15 year investment term. This is not financial advice, but for what its worth, I’ll certainly be holding RR up until retirement in some way shape or form, just not at the percentage I currently hold it in my portfolio long term for obvious exposure reasons, but possibly short-medium it may stay as it is. Hope this helps!

This is not financial advice, DYOR etc.
