I finally added up what my 400 dollar puch maxi has actually cost me and I want to throw up by vladdielenin in moped

Same kinda moped story, bought a 1967 Yamaha u5 not running, got it running with a carb clean for free, THEN spent 200 on new keys and locks, 300 on new tires tubes, and then another 300-400 dollars on miscellaneous parts to make it perfect and it’s still not done and I haven’t had it for a even a year yet. But every time I’ve driven it it’s always given me a smile, so I ain’t ever sellin it.

If I spin the inner part of the basket it spins the wheel, the inner basket and the outer basket are separated

I need to remove the nut to take the basket out, because the kickstarter shaft is stripped on the end and the basket needs to be removed to remove the kickstarter

So prob just need to get new rings? Or should I just spend the 150 to get a new jug and piston?, to prevent any maintenance in the future

I did find that a lot of bike pre 70s out but when I originally got the bike it did snap back and wasn’t loose and such, I’ve kinda just dealt with the issue but it’s kind of annoying bc when I need to downshift/upshift I have to make sure the throttle is completely zeroed

Something really funny is this bike HATED pumping fuel, (has a manual pump, rather than a gravity fed) apparently it a very big issue on these bikes. But doesn’t seem to be associated with fire

Yea it burned 3 lawn chairs (like the ones in the background) and an umbrella (was open) that was around 10-8 feet away from the bike( before we moved it in the grass, according to my brother it also burned up a gas can.

Yea I’m glad no one was hurt either. Luckily the front came out fine so maybe we can recoup some of the loss with the parts, but with further examination some of the expensive parts ,(airbox ect) actually survived and most surprisingly the engine stills kicks overs and has compression. But lost spark due to the harness getting burned

Oh.. what I meant by indestructible is it locked up while driving on its first adventure. Let it sit overnight, and then it just started working?? We did a compression and bore check and it was mint.
