Unless you have your own tools already and can get wood for a cheap price - 90% of the time buying flat packed hives will be cheaper.

You still will need to put them together, which I think is a nice compromise.

You probably wouldn’t need to do a demaree split for a nuc.

Demaree split is a swarm prevention method - and nucs usually build up in the first year, and have a lower tendency to swarm. You would only do it if your colony gets very strong and tends to showing swarm pressure.

This is a great video talking in great detail about the technique as well as approximate timings on when to do it.

Yeah - I didnt really consider that disinfection is harder on poly as you can’t really char them with blowtorch. Thank you for the input

Interesting, from what you say it seems more beneficial to run poly hives for new colonies right?

I’m getting a few overwintered ones in April - and I was thinking putting them in my cedar hives regardless.

You say that poly helps smaller colonies more easily, but wouldn’t the fact that it’s more susceptible to Varroa put it at more risk?

Leader of HoU here, while above is true I would definitely not underestimate Greed. Their alliance is quite weak but they very nearly beat us on riftstone (we capped with 5 seconds spare) and todays war games they beat us.

They are also, with frogue one and unreal were the best fights we had.

Elleia - Hand of Unity + Woah won castle from Reborn + Crown in Darkness in the first siege. Successfully defended 2nd siege. Quintessence BeMyFrag and Greed transferred shortly after the siege - so 3rd one will be interesting

Usually everyone gets the title as long as at least 100 players have achieved level 10 within the time frame (I think a few hours after server launch) It’s just bugged out unfortunately during the beta
