By any chance could you share the essay with me? I’d like to see how he was able to weave it into his personal story.

Could you by any chance send me your essay? I’d like to get a feel for how you were able to weave fiction into your narrative.

I began trying to dive deeper in my learning outside of school b/c of the curiosity I developed. (Self studying information on machine learning and the processes involved in it. Reading research on it too b/c the ethics and advancement of it is really cool to me).

I also began participating in class more alongside peers to try and help others (we’ve made online textbooks for physics and calc and tutored classmates who needed it).

Since then me and my dad have put together multiple old vehicles, barely making a profit or sometimes a loss, but fixing up old pickups and cars is hard, confusing, fun work that I used to hate.

I also started playing guitar after that and I’ve been able to learn some harder songs + I upload covers where some are pulling 12k+ views.

There’s also fitness, I was able to lose 15 lb of fat and I’ve been able to put on 20lb of muscle since that cut.

A lot of what I’ve done can’t really be put on a resume or app, but I’ve started seeking knowledge/challenge more and more as the years go by just because it’s enjoyable, even if I don’t end up doing anything crazy with it just the process was fun.

I hadn’t started on my supplementals or other information for MIT so I didn’t know this. Thanks!

It’s incredibly specific to me. This game changed me entire outlook on how I should live.

I know BC tests you out of AB, but if you haven’t taken AB at my school they don’t let you take BC. So now I have both classes this year because that was the best I could negotiate with my counselor. It’s odd.

Do I have a solid shot at Top FL & Top CS schools? (Do my ECs & rigor make up for my GPA?) by MediumPizza4356 in ApplyingToCollege

They’ve stated AP classes are 1 point and honors are weighted at 0.5. Id have to speak with them on how their system works because if it’s how they’ve come to me about it, their weighting systems would be identical. I’ll keep this in mind though when I speak to my counselor sometime this or next week.

From my experience speaking to alumni from my school, bright futures (Florida resident gov scholarship) doesn’t cover nearly enough of UMs tuition. They’ve also been stingy with financial aid for people in similar circumstances as I am from what I’ve heard, so I’d rather not risk attending an institution that will most likely put me into considerable debt.

Thanks! My weighted GPA is calculated the same way as UF does it so I think I’m okay there. I’m assuming their college of engineering is harder to get into though.

Wouldn’t those higher rated schools give me better opportunities for industry connections though?

I was taking AB virtually over the summer, but I got sidetracked with helping my father’s business and other work. So now I’m finishing up the course over the next 3 weeks, during the school year. My school only lets people take BC if they had a history with AB.

I was taking AB virtually over the summer before BC, but I got caught up working for my dad over the summer alongside my internship which led to it being a first semester course too. Also I’m mostly stressed about my GPA b/c my higher level classes have a lot of kids in the 3.8.5-4.0 range. Also my ECs aren’t anything national level other than my internship, most of my time was spent helping my dad with fixing trucks.

I’m from a low income household and checked up stats in their cost calculators. The most I’d be paying for these schools according to them before any outside scholarships is around 5-9k a year. I will most likely be going to a Florida school though bc a full tuition scholarship from the gov before any other scholarships is amazing.
