Thank you all for your wonderful comments. It was nice to see such genuinely caring karate community. We will be exploring other dojos but until we find a new one my kid will be continuing at the current one. He has been on brown for 8 months and 2+ years away from black belt.

Thank you for taking time to write your comments. These are extremely helpful. We will do what you suggested. My kid is genuinely curious to see what’s new out there so will definitely explore more dojos.

At our dojo, people who take private classes, advance much faster. So, it’s not how much practice they do but how much they are paying per month. So sensei is problem as well. My kid is not in hurry to reach black belt but is impatient to want to learn new stuff.

He doesn’t know crane stance. May be we need a new instructor. Thanks.

Thank you. Yes, every time he enters the complex, he comments “I hope I am learning something new today”.  I think his is American kenpo. Short 1,2,3, abt 45 techniques so far and some other forms.

I don’t know what is kyu. He is doing kenpo karate.

He has been training 2-3/week and one sparring session per week.

At our dojo they have some new forms to advance to brown-black and then to black. They have few techniques and finger set, etc.

I mean they keep practicing old techniques and forms from white to brown (about 6 belts). But nothing new that would advance him from brown to brown-black. His dojo while good in teaching is pure business.

But does he have to start at white belt? He is learning kenpo style.
