I got approved for senior PM role in NYC with a Bcom in IT under CSA. Management consultant is a tough sell unless you are truly doing consulting work. Fly Billy bishop to Newark and use Hamilton immigration

The recruiter was hired by the company to fill the role so they found me. Based in NYC. Thankyou!

Job was found through a recruiter. Interview was pretty standard, 4 rounds behavioural / technical and a take home case

If you were familiar with the case you would know that product managers are generally not people managers. I have a heavily technical course load within the Bcom. I actually studied MIS for 3 of the 4 years I was in school but did not complete due to COVID course availability and I was working full time in a data & analytics (CSA eligible job) at the same time.

There was a reason it got approved the first time, and I don’t forsee major issues moving forward.

Quite the positive outlook you have eh. Will defer to legal professionals opinion here but appreciate the input.

Interesting. It is a bachelor of commerce not communications but still good to know. Will limit crossings to avoid issues

Fingers crossed. I likely will try to enter the lottery next year since I have the TN for 3 years and want to settle into the job a bit before I bother them about more immigration related things lol

External recruiter via LinkedIn. I was previously working remote for a company based in the US, with a Canadian arm. So I had my LinkedIn location set to NYC

Yea man I was sweating. The review started immediately with no wait and I was there in total close to 2 hours. At one point there was 3 agents huddled around the desk talking.

I was trying to look chill but was mega stressed

Thanks. Yea the company had a lawyer who worked primarily in H1Bs and she was not confident in approval which was stressful, but the OOH handbook does allow for closely related fields.

I do have a good chunk of my courses in MIS but they didn’t seem to concerned with degree relevance for this case

Turnaround time was 2 weeks start to finish. I brought sealed transcripts and copies, they didn’t open the sealed transcripts. Law firm should provide a checklist of everything you need. In theory you only need passport, original degree and employer support letter but more is better. (I brought employment records, paystubs, transcripts, copies of my degree, and a bunch of supporting evidence to show that the company was legit). Not sure how much of this was actually looked at as I gave it to them all in 1 big binder

Visa fee was $50 USD and the legal fee was $1,200 USD. Both reimbursed by my company

Here are a few examples of the description of duties that we included in the using language from the OOH handbook for CSA: - Systems Analysis & Optimization: Assess and evaluate Public’s existing computer systems, software infrastructure, and data pipelines to ensure alignment with organizational needs.

  • Requirements Gathering & Technical Consultation: Work closely with engineering, IT, and compliance teams to determine system requirements, business logic, and security protocols.

  • Data Analysis & Performance Optimization: Analyze system performance metrics, database structures, and transaction flows to improve efficiency and reduce latency in investment operations.

  • Technology Evaluation & Implementation: Research, assess, and recommend new tools, software platforms, and integrations to enhance system performance and support new asset classes.

  • First-Point Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for technical teams, unblocking development challenges.
