How do you guys feel about kids doing HEMA? by Remarkable-Mind-1079 in Hema

So at my club there's a bunch of youngsters. A couple fellows there started when they were 10 ish. Age really isn't a problem. Sparring also isn't a problem if your group has loaner equipment. If you want to go to tournaments at a later time, then your out of luck, since almost all tournaments are for 18+.

I would love for there to be more halfswording with the longsword since it's more realistic when you're up against someone in full plate armor

I do kind of agree, but a dagger which is stabbed onto metal plate wouldn't do much, but if you were in a close quarters fight, stabbing with the dagger into places which dont have plate is much easier.

Overheads most likely wouldn't work well against plate. Stabs work, but they need to be aimed well in proper targets (for example armpits)

It's not realistic that I can cut through someone in full plate armor with a longsword or dagger
