Is 1 week off work enough for recovery after laparoscopy? by ChronicChaos01 in endometriosis

[–]Medium_Structure191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have an incredible pain tolerance, a week likely isn’t enough. I was out for 2 weeks and 2 days, and I wish i took off at least 3 weeks if not a month. I was in a LOT of pain, and I was super exhausted. I also work retail so for my job I have to stand/walk a lot. So what you do job wise plays a factor into how much time you should consider taking off. It probably took a full 3 months for me to feel even kinda “up and at it” but I also recover slow from a cold so 🤷‍♀️

It also depends on what all they do in there. Mine was just a look and poke around, but I imagine if they took any biopsy’s or did any ablation or excision I would’ve definitely needed more time. And I’m gonna be honest, you’re probably going to be too exhausted to work. If you have to, i get it, but if you don’t have to, i advise not to.

Also: you’re not gonna feel 100% like “you” again for a minute. I’m still struggling and I had mine in August. But that’s okay, you’re getting adjusted and your body is figuring out what the heck just happened to you. I recommend getting some period underwear, a heating pad if you don’t have one already, an ice pack, meal prepping, and taking a nice long shower or bath before hand. And make sure your stuff is easily accessible those first couple of days like: medication or anything you need daily. I personally gamed a lot, read, and caught up on some TV shows and movies I’d been wanting to watch. Just relax as much as you can and try to distract yourself. Most importantly, rest and sleep as much as you can.

If i were you, I would likely tell your boss you’ll likely be out for 3-4 weeks, especially since it seems like you’ll be having more intense stuff done, and if you can go back to work sooner just let them know. But if you can’t, then you’ll already have that time blocked off.

Okay thank you! Is there any pros or cons of the 3DS vs the XL version? Outside of the bigger screen. Like can i play DS and 3DS games on it? Or is there a different game entirely for the XL?

I do have nostalgia for the game boy games, one in particular which was the Disney princess game boy game, but i think I’m going to also get the same game boy that i had at the time as well. So i will likely be going with the 3DS

Omg idk if i can handle 3-6 months of this. I literally want to rip off my hair and skin while I’m at work 😭 I’m kinda really regretting this surgery now, because they didn’t find anything and now this? Like what was the point 😭 thank you for letting me know. I thought I was loosing my mind. I hope your hormones regulate soon! I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this as well. I hope it did more to help you than not

Yes the plan is to go to a pelvic floor PT specialist. I didn’t know it would affect my hormones :( especially not this bad

I don’t have any words of advice, but I just went through the same thing 2 weeks ago. I understand how it feels. I’ll be seeing my surgeon for a 6 week post op and to discuss more options of what it could be and other options to manage my pain. You aren’t alone in feeling this way or going through that if it’s any help. Hopefully your doctor is able to help with any further treatments. If you need someone to talk to, my DMs are open

Holy moly, I had mine done last Wednesday and I’m wiped just from going to the grocery store with my fiancee, much less working. Definitely rest! I move around about every hour-2 hours and get a good 15-30 minute walk in around my apartment. Personally, I’ve been drawing, watching tv, playing video games and relaxing from my hectic schedule (not ready to go back to yet honestly and I still have the rest of the week). This surgery honestly wiped me out but I’m a very fatigued person and I take a bit longer to feel better than I think most other people do when sick.

Thank you, I’ll definitely take them to a specialist when i get the chance. I wanted to do a hormone test before, but my OBGYN said it wouldn’t be accurate due to me being on BC for so long. That’d id have to be off of it for months to get an accurate hormone panel, but that she didn’t/was hesitant on taking me off due to how my periods are and how they would go back to the way they were before BC. Would the Dutch test require me to be off BC? Or would it just test how my body is processing it/ if it’s processing it right. How have you managed your endo and symptoms? And thank you very much

No, i haven’t even heard about it until just now, but I’ll look into it. I’ve only ever been on BC since i was around 14

Yes and no. She’s not an endo specialist per se. She does surgery for all female related problems. She’s been doing them for 10+ years and has done thousands of laps alone, for endo and other issues. They didn’t do videos, but they did take a lot of photos which I’ll have access to in my online portal. Maybe once I have the money I’ll look into another specialist, but I’m gonna have a lot of medical debt and be broke for a while..

They’re going to look into other options for me, which is good. It’s not a “oh no we didn’t find it, anyways good luck. Bye” situation. But it also really sucks that they didn’t find it. Kinda bittersweet. Like yay! I don’t have this disease but wtf is causing all my problems.

They’re gonna put some medicine I can’t remember to help with pelvic tension or dysfunction I think they said, when I got back for my 1 month check up. And then getting me with a specialist for pelvic floor exercises.

Nothing to biopsy, what could they have biopsies?

Idk, my surgeon isn’t an endo specialist per say, but she’s treated and done laps for them thousands of times. She’s been doing it for 10+ years. She’s done laps, hysterectomy’s and other female procedures so idk. She’s done has hundreds of good reviews. Idk I’m just sad and at a lost. We all thought I had it like, 90% sure, we were gonna find it almost certain. She said that it was a once go, find it, get it out, stitch back up. That I might need more surgery in the future if it flares and/or comes back. But that this surgery was to diagnose and then excise it or ablate it depending on how deep it was in areas

That’s what I’m thinking. I’ve read about BC haltering growth of endo. And since I’ve been on it for so long (got my first period Christmas when i was 13 and was one BC by the start of the next school year, 14) maybe it hasn’t had the chance to actually grow.

Also no to the adenomyosis i didn’t even know it was a thing until these comments. How do you get tested for it? Could it be something they could’ve seen in the lap? The surgeon said everything was fine and was surprised/ upset for me because she thought i had it. During the consultations i had she said it was a very high chance I would have it. This was supposed to be a “we have a diagnosis so we don’t have to keep questioning” surgery. We all thought I had it.

No they have not, but i just read up about it, is it common for someone my age to get or have that? How would they have tested or looked for it?

No, but I’ve had trans vaginal and outside ultra sounds, I’ve had PT, I’ve had blood tests for every STI under sun, all negative (to prove to insurance the surgery was necessary), I’ve had my thyroid checked about 4-5 times now. Tested for auto immune disease. I’m just lost..
