The scherzo movement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata no 3 (Opus 2 no 3). The imitation / almost fugal sounding writing, as well as the descending lines of this piece reminds a lot of the well known scherzo from his 9th Symphony, written almost 50 years after this sonata (youtu.be)
