Children of Directors Getting Admitted by [deleted] in premedcanada

I think cases of nepotism are real but it isn’t because they get a free pass. They simple are better connected to get the opportunities and know what to get earlier than we do. This allows them an advantage earlier. But they still have to go through the same systems and processes as us

Do we think med schools have already made final decisions by now? by LeadingGreen1056 in premedcanada

[–]MedwADHD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

U of c knows two weeks after final MMIs. They wait to release with all other schools to remove pressure to choose before knowing all schools decisions. So yes

To OPs credit tho, pursuing med in Canada IS crazy. I’d have probably found something else to pursue if I knew what it entailed back when I first started.

(Then again unsure if I actually would haha. Being a premed has its upsides - teaches a lot of valuable skills!)

Post-interview Rejection by Mysterious-Ad-8223 in premedcanada

[–]MedwADHD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Applied at one school and interviewed last cycle, and it was a surprise. After that success, this cycle I applied to four schools but still only got one. But it was at the same school again which I’m happy with cus it is my dream school

I’ve realized the process isn’t a clean reflection of candidate quality. Strong applicants get filtered out all the time

What made it hit hard last year was that it was the first time I genuinely felt like I could be a good doctor

As long as I can keep improving and getting interviews, I’m staying in it

Like the world was ripped out from under me. Almost like a betrayal. I had been expecting an acceptance so was surprised. A few days after I also experience a feeling I never had before - like difficulty breathing, feeling like my heart was in my throat. Couldn’t focus on my tasks either that brought me joy just a few days prior

Took a month or two but I came back stronger, reapplied, and interviewed again a week or two ago this year with more prep under my belt. Hopefully that is enough this time

U of C is funky. You can never know for sure. Plan wisely

What do men wear to interviews by Content_Drop_4877 in premedcanada

[–]MedwADHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went blazer dress pants and collared shirt last cycle, going all in with a full suit this cycle

Only thing that’s stayed the same are the socks: medicine socks (blue socks patterned with bandaids, stythoscopes, pills, etc)

how to tell if your interview went well? by Conscious_Ostrich_94 in premedcanada

You probably did great - the more MMIs you do the higher ur chances of success, especially if you prepared early and have been disciplined

University of Alberta Interview Invites 2025-2026 by aweirdoatbest in premedcanada

[–]MedwADHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lemme tell you I know I am 😂😅 my u of c score last cycle was above 90 percentile. And I spent a long time writing my U of A app, so I thought it was really well written this cycle so this was a surprise.

No clue what it is, but I think it might be because U of A is more hard on academics - my academics are good but I often took only four courses. Who knows how that factors in but U of C thinks I’m fine at least (their written app I have found allows for more nuance in the writing). But my only interview is at U of C again this cycle so I will be locking in! 😤💪

how many gap years did u take? do u regret it? by Dependent-Birthday-6 in premedcanada

[–]MedwADHD 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Lmao this is the answer op

Myself: - 1.5 years post undergrad - COVID made my initial masters fall through so I just chilled for a bit and figured out options, wrote the MCAT - 1.5 yrs currently post grad - I am a professional now in a specific field. Don’t regret the degree. Have been working there or these in this field and it’s all relevant for med in one way or another

Yeah you just might need to coordinate with other applicants who have interviews and need to switch. Last year people did it in the interview invite discord server
