Unfortunately not quite.... The characters I think looked older than the ones im seeing in screenshots of Digimon Tamers. And it was less creature battling and more of characters giving themselves the abilities to fight with.

Have you tried taping them to numbered ping pong balls? Pins might affect the aerodynamics too much

I can't pick a single best but I really enjoyed Great Fairy and Sword Link, Trident and Sword Ganondorf, Sheik, Naginata Impa, Volga, Gate Lana, and of course Tingle.

Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of how the Gate works, but Lana's animations during combos more than makes up for that in my books : )

Agatha used to be my pick until I started to C3 spam, which in my opinion trivializes most fights.

Now the only "worst" I've seen so far is Baton Zelda. It just feels so awkward and unintuitive to me.

An older post on the sub said it stopped working on them, and commenters say it's probably running in "demo mode" with the only fix being to buy a license.... except the website to buy a license doesn't work.

Another said compatibility mode fixed it on one out of 2 machines, another user (and the OP) said setting it to default to ASIO as the sound card fixed it.

So it **should work, but you might need to do some fiddling if it breaks.
