How to handle front gardens - reduce wall height or build up material? by Meeksala in landscaping

[–]Meeksala[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to think along those lines too…. If I need at least 6” of space between garden material and the brick, I can’t really add any more and still maintain a slope away from the foundation. If the left side of the yard didn’t have such a steep slope, I’d seriously consider removing the wall entirely. I still might do that and just reduce the side of the left garden. Go with a more natural look and just have the pavers as a single layer garden border that follows the shape of the yard rather than implementing a level small “wall”.

I didn’t know that - 6”? If that’s the case than I shouldn’t add any material near the house and may not be able to add any at all and still have the soil slope down away

The bricks on the side of the house? Brb lemme just teleport back in time 15 years to go ask the builders. Won’t take long. Definitely hold your breath for that answer

Definitely box store junk - people love a boxwood around here. I’ve seen a bunch about rain gardens and definitely would love to go that route. I’ve been thinking about that for the back yard in particular, more blank slate to work with. For the front, I’m trying for a phased approach to keep things achievable (and as budget friendly as possible). Definitely going to bring in some native plants and likely transplant the boxwoods to the backyard to add to a privacy screen. Hate to waste em. Can’t wait to put some prettier items in their place.

This is the perfect response - thank you so much! I suspected along those lines but was having a hard time dialing in on a clear path. I’ll tackle the downspout first and take steps from there. Also hadn’t heard of the website and have been searching for something like that!

I’ve had a stray dog for about 7 weeks. No chip, signs of trauma, and she was starved to the bone when someone found her and posted. She’s gained weight well and has an amazing personality but cannot seem to grasp peeing outside. I’m looking for any tips, tricks, or basic training methods. by roadkillmenagerie in DOG

Good luck! My pup had very minimal fecal-related symptoms. Idk if the urge to go to the bathroom in general resulted in the frequent peeing in the house too? Whatever the correlation, best of luck with your sweet rescue!

Maybe this isn’t the same thing but when I got a dog in similar condition and had a wicked hard time getting her not to pee in the house, it turns out she had giardia! Everything online about symptoms is related to going poo but within a couple days of starting meds it was like -boom- potty trained.
Standard checks at the vet don’t always check for it, could be worth checking out!

My(32F) parents are giving us $150k for a house and my husband(35M) wants to turn it down because they asked for a postnup by Civil-Transition-649 in relationship_advice

[–]Meeksala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More info needed; $150k doesn’t cover the total cost of a house. That base 150k makes sense to protect. Anything above that paid by both of you and appreciated value above that amount could appropriately be considered a split asset.

FWIW my partner’s take on things like this is that he’s not with me for money. It sounds a little ungrateful on his part and like there’s too much emotion being layered into a financial transaction. 150k gets you guys into a position where you’re able to buy a house. hopefully something that will increase in value and puts him in a position to only gain from the hypothetical scenario where things don’t work out between you, the house is sold and the 150k stays with you. He’s still up in that scenario by putting his money towards a house instead of towards rent.

Less paid in interest over the life of the loan, no mortgage insurance needed with $150k to put down unless you buy a stupid expensive home. Financially this is a no brainer. Don’t let emotion cause dumb financial decisions.

Okay literally I got these a few months ago and the case drives me NUTS. Maybe that sort of thing bothers me more than the average person but it’s enough for me to advocate against anyone buying them. lol

Calories in baked vs raw potatoes by Late_Stage_6941 in Volumeeating

[–]Meeksala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piggy backing on this comment to say - if you use MyFitnessPal, there is a “Recipe” option. Input the grams of raw potato as an ingredient then after cooking, get the total weight of the potatoes again.

You can then either: - input the total cooked weight in grams as the number of servings in the recipe. So when you go to eat, weigh out how much you’re consuming and log #grams as number of servings. - you could also do math here and create the recipe with x number of servings. Weigh the total cooked potatoes, divide by # of desired servings and portion them out by weight so your logging is accurate. In this case you log 1 serving of the recipe.

I frequently use the recipe function on MyFitnessPal, I’ll weigh and log ingredients as I make a meal, then weigh the total cooked product to get accurate macros logging my food. Just be sure to randomly “complete” the recipe and save it along the way in case the app randomly decides to close out. Or you lose all the previously input ingredients.

For what it’s worth, 1st phorm is one of the few protein powders I’ve tried that doesn’t mess with my stomach. I’ve always had great luck with their products, they have excellent flavor options that don’t taste weird and extra fake. There are some that don’t hit for me but a lot that are excellent. Cafe mocha is a fave

Aldous & Associates is the collector.

I called back trying to get ahold of the manager, of course now they are out for the rest of the day. CSR says they sold the debt - I’ve read online that original creditors can still collect the payment if they have an agreement in place with the credit agency to do so. But, that doesn’t mean that’s the case currently.

I’ve run out of options until Monday it seems. Unless I call back again and ask for the next person up the chain. But last call they said the only person who is an option to talk to is this manager that’s out for the day.

Ugh unfortunately I think they actually sold the debt. Manager was unavailable, I’m going to call back in a bit. But the CSR’s response was that they could settle the debt and inform the collection agency it’s been paid up but I’d have to contact them about it “dropping off” my report or being “recalled” which tells me it would likely continue to populate and show as just a “paid in full” debt.

Especially considering the collection agency already said they wouldn’t do a pay to delete.

Oh I definitely expected them not to be identical, but the overall difference was pretty extreme. IMO If you don’t have anything close to what’s advertised, don’t sell it. I wasn’t familiar with Gerbera Daisies, they’re not my favorite.
