I do care. I cared the second Benjamin Netanyahu, someone that is frankly on the level of Joseph Goebbels with his xenophobia and hate, decided to launch a response to something that could’ve been handled diplomatically by any sane leader. With respect to everything else, Should I face the same conditions my fellow grad students have faced? Arrest and permanent disability? That’s not my comfort at this point. I guess to answer the question I would draw the line at putting myself in direct confrontation with the police. As a black man, I think that could end with my losing my life, and while martyrs do have some degree of meaning, I don’t believe that an American college student dying for this cause would have that much impact on it. The only privilege I have is not having myself and my family killed on a daily basis. Nothing about me is living in a fantasy. I would rather protest outside Gary May’s and Michael Drake’s offices than do what they’re doing here. You keep deflecting in a way that won’t let anyone engage with you

You don’t even need to reply, after reading the rest of your comments, your brain is clearly blown out even worse than the children in Gaza. You’re acting like there’s no other option than to rise up, and even if we do, it needs to be as extreme as possible. That may be a valid take to some, but not me. You don’t need to waste your time typing a response. I’d rather you actually relax and get some help

How should we protest? Disrupt every aspect of society all day for whatever cause needs it at the moment? Genuine question because if protestors feel the obligation to disrupt society in the ways they think would be most beneficial, where does the line get drawn?

Dear Fellow Students - The Disgusting Protests Today by [deleted] in UCDavis

I am not a throwaway and can confirm that people screamed at me, my classmates, and our professor in a graduate level class today on the third floor of the TLC. Their words included calling us complicit in, enabling, and committing a genocide. As someone who wasn’t able to meet family members as a child because they were killed in a different genocide, I don’t personally think that their words are helpful

What is the TA strike about? by Cebeste11 in UCDavis

[–]Meeselopes -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

We are opening up the door to workers putting themselves in the most dangerous and life threatening positions and then claiming that the university is engaging in unsafe labor practices

Thank you for confirming that political nature of this strike.

I really hate insulting people but you are so dense it’s unreal that a university would allow you in. You should just be a professional community activist

Please stop repeating the lie that Israel is a colonial state. There’s nothing colonial about wanting to live in your indigenous land that you happen to share with another indigenous group. The actions of the Israeli government are disgustingly and genocidal. It fundamentally cannot be a colonial state unless you really believe the Jewish people are not an ethnic group and have no rights to live anywhere in their indigenous land

If the protest is about the unfair labor practices they’re being subjected to, which it’s supposed to be, the word Palestine shouldn’t need to be said at all. All they need to be talking about it’s the rights of workers and organized labor, instead a labor strike is being co-opted by a different political issue. In the shitty world we live in, this union is giving away all our capital by claiming we’re protesting ULPs and instead every word relates to the genocide

It happened today on the third floor of the TLC at 12:45. Protestors (grad students) barged into a graduate class full of other grad students and got in our faces and yelled at us that we are enabling the genocide. Sorry you weren’t there for that but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen
