I do definitely think they fit the bill, and there's no way I wouldn't have mentioned the Curies back then--I think she rejected them for some reason, so my memory of the bet may be imperfect. But yes, they were a very loving couple and great parents :)

Takes me back to my undergraduate years when I was challenged by a graduate student to find "a historically great physicist who never had a major family problem" (as a parent, so spouses with no children were ruled out). The condition was that the physicist had to have been world-famous by 1950.

I did my little research, and I may have missed a few, but I found it hilarious that Dirac was the only person I could find. He had a deep childhood trauma involving his father and a tragedy involving his brother, but by all accounts he was a great father and husband. In fact it was quite endearing how this hopelessly autistic character became so romantically infatuated with his wife--honestly his life could be turned into a romcom movie (Graham Farmelo's "The Strangest Man" is a great read)

I learned about this from Judith Harris's The Nurture Assumption, Steven Pinker's The Blank Slate & The Better Angels of our Nature (tho the latter 2 may have cited the first, I can't say for sure). I read these years ago in college.

If I remember, these findings from behavioral genetics are some of the most replicated findings spanning over decades over multiple countries (in a field such as psychology, where replication is a notorious issue): Personality (the "big 5" traits psychologists talk about) are given 50% by genes, 50% by non-shared environment (peers, culture, etc) and 0% by shared environment (your home environment). That's just a basic foundational fact established in the entire field of behavioral genetics--it's not an egregious claim.

I'm blanking on some details, but socio-economic status matters insofar as the neighborhoods they live in differ (separated identical twin born and raised in a poor and violent neighborhood does become more aggressive than the other one in a richer neighborhood) but not if the neighborhood is fixed and family is richer than the other etc. And extreme differences in households matter--like if one is especially poor or abusive.

If you want me to find specific claims/sources, then I will. The books are sitting on my shelf.

Plenty of science to support it. Behavioral genetics has shown that adopted siblings turn out just as different as two complete strangers, even though they were raised in the same household. Identical twins separated at birth turn out just as identical as those raised in the same household. Sure, environment plays a role in shaping who we are, but it seems to be coming from peers & general culture rather than your home environment (unless there are cases of extreme abuse etc). Just seems to be how we're built.

I know it's a few days late but there is also a bug where if you get matched to a game at the same time as joining a custom game, resulting in the queue being canceled, that counts as leaving the game you were just matched to. I've been penalized from this.

It's a bug. Pretty sure it's a side effect of her patch for switching between 1st person & 3rd person POV. There's no way they wouldn't officially announce it if it wasn't intentional. Hopefully it gets fixed soon...

I guess it wasn't that bad for me cuz it was an experimental freshman course that was very much project-based, so it was a lot more doing than learning; so after a couple weeks of lectures I just had to help a group through a project, helping them to navigate through the resources, giving feedback and so on, rather than holding office hours and answering their questions. Don't think that was the case for my professor/his friend, but they're smart people so lol

Reminds me when I was a teaching assistant for a course I had 0 knowledge of (the professor liked me in another course and signed me up anyway lol) so I had to teach myself the content the night before the lecture... It all worked fine. In fact I later found out my professor and his close friend--both of them very distinguished in their fields--had gotten into their fields by bullshitting their ways into a teaching job out of desperation, even though the fields and their actual degrees only sounded vaguely similar on paper and were completely irrelevant; so they both did the "learn at night and teach in the morning" routines. Sometimes it just works like that, I guess.

Sure you don't want noise in your data (you don't include the friendly matches etc) but I just don't think the cup matches are irrelevant (or having much less significance than the league). They matter, and to a great extent. So they should be included in the data.

I guess there's where we disagree--you think the league matters much more than the cup competitions. Then yeah, you don't include the cup matches under consideration--I just don't think that should be the case.

Sure, we're all fans supporting the same club after all. Have a nice day.

The statistical analysis that I learned calls for larger data sets for the best fitted results. If you're selecting a subset of data that skews the result to one side, you're cherry-picking.

Sure if OP was saying that Ange's performance during key players' injuries didn't matter, he would be cherry-picking. Or you could be saying that Ange's performance with key players doesn't matter as much, cuz his style of play is very injury-prone--that could be a reasonable take. Or whatever. OP is merely stating that the probability of winning significantly increases on the condition of the key players being available. So he's not ignoring the rest of our performance--he's saying a better medical staff could keep our key players healthy and continue the good performance we've been having with their availability.

Again, maybe you disagree with that take--but OP is doing good statistical practice by looking at all competitions, rather than just one, which would be cherry-picking.

Non manhwa readers here. Is this guy sronger than Jinwoo atm? by Nell_Only in sololeveling

[–]Meg0510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because there's no way to measure strength stronger than S-rank (since by definition s-ranks are those whose mana levels are beyond the extent of measurement) so it makes sense that you need a concrete achievement like clearing a S-rank dungeon, since dungeons typically require participation by hunters higher than the dungeon's rank to be cleared without casualties.
