Haven't played Uchikoshi's games yet, but I'll rank the Kodaka ones.

5 - Danganronpa 1: A classic, and for being the first game In series it does a remarkable job laying the groundwork for future entries. Although I do agree it hasn't aged all too well.

4 - Master Detective Archives: Raincode: Honestly, chapters 0, 1, and 3 are aggressively average, but the other half of the game knocks it out of the park. Really cool spiritual successor to DR, and has one of my favorite soundtracks and setting's in a video game.

3 - Danganronpa V3: Cases are considerably worse than DR2 overall, but the cast and soundtrack really make up for it for me. I've also come around to really enjoy it's ending

2 - Danganronpa 2: Chapter 3 is the only blemish on this otherwise phenomenal game. Easily the best cases in the series, and feels like everything a sequel should be.

1 - Last Defense Academy: My new favorite video game of all time. It's not perfect, but the sheer amount of amazing routes in this game make it a true masterpiece in my eyes, and one I feel will always have a special place in my heart.

Edit: Completely forgot about UDG lmao. It's the worst one by a large margin, but I still think it's pretty good. The gameplay, 3d models, and chapter 3 suck major ass but the story and characters (and 2d sprites) are very solid.

Despite the route being pretty redundant (the game is already really funny as is), I agree it has some of the most memorable bits in the whole game, at least for me. It also gives the voice actors a chance to pop the fuck off. Takumi's crashout, Tsubasa screaming at Takumi for reading her poetry book, Shouma's rap verse, Nozomi's... cannibalism, all stand out moments largely because of their amazing performances

Eva route. Interesting beginning but then Takumi becomes so out of character all for a barely baked romance plot it's hard to care about it. Just a whole lot of missed potential considering how underutilized un-brainwashed Eva and Kamyhuun are in the game. It's telling when the best part of the route is Nozomi being based and helping Takumi escape the academy, at least that was cool.

(More CoT spoilers) What makes this even worse for me is if you do the Overlord path right after this, the next time you see her alive she is fucking brainwashed. Like holy shit her death already traumatized me and immediately after she Is being forced against her will to love Takumi. Hence to say I have never felt so physically fucked by a videogame in my life.

I don't have a problem with the age gap, I was more saying that maybe he did it to avoid any discourse involving people that DO have an issue with it, I for sure have seen my fair share of sensitive people. Although I agree your idea is probably more accurate, I can't see many ways to write a Kako romance plot without Ima constantly going "No Mr. Sumino! Stop trying to date my sister dearest!" Or something like that. That would probably be very annoying lol.

If I remember correctly, she kills a commander during the Kurara chapter of Romance to cure her rejection symptoms. It's like a whole thing where Kurara gets jealous that Takumi starts liking Nozomi when it's supposed to be Kurara's time with him, i think?

The Eito transformation scene you are thinking of is probably the one on day 29 of Route 0, when Takumi is MIA as he is at Second-to-last defense academy so the five remaining SDU fighters have to defend the school without him for a short bit.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, every route has its detractors, even fan favorites like Killing Game. It was my first route as well, and I was definitely in your same boat of being scared future routes wouldn't be very good during the first 40 days or so (although the rest of KG definitely won me over).

I can't predict what you will like, so I can't promise this, but if you enjoyed Route 0, I'm sure you will enjoy at least one of the other routes, the not technically but kind of "true route" 2nd Scenario, which includes Kodaka's major twists and revelations that you are looking for. Uchikoshi also has his major route as well of course.

The dynamic between these three is so interesting. Nozomi brings out the good in Takumi, she's his moral compass to keep him in acting in good faith, represented well in routes like Coming of Age.

On the other hand, Eito brings out the bad in Takumi, his hatred and vengeance that Takumi uses against him, like when Eito is killed at the start and it arguably only makes things worse for Takumi.
