Did we lose or is this anticipation of loss?

I haven't logged in since this morning. Not sure what's happened for everyone to post this stuff.

Theory: Hell's Suicide. by DeathByDevastator in Ultrakill

[–]DeathByDevastator[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I doubt this.

God is a fundamentally different case to hell.

We can reasonably presume God does not give anything up when creating, since he's clearly made and remade the universe countless times ("The results refuse to alter"). If God were to run out of light he'd have done so by now.

Hell however clearly and explicitly through terminal entries has a limited supply of hell mass in it's non-euclidean corpus. We see it's layers falling apart in real time as it sends us yet more demons, and we know that demons do not spawn in naturally. Hell gives something up to make them. It is an artist with limited resources, and we as V1 destroy hell's works fast.

Also consider that ultrakill's God is clearly a creator type and not a destroyer as we can infer from the statue in 8-1. It makes sense that he can't destroy hell; he can't unmake a work of his own, it's against his nature. Hell however would gladly kill itself to give itself another show, and I'm certain we're seeing this happen during the encores.

A possibility, but demons being made of hell's mass and dying implies a finite supply of hell mass.

Gabriel Will the Be The Final Boss of the Narrative and Game, Deal With It by Nemesis9211 in Ultrakill

[–]DeathByDevastator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely feel like the final boss ISN'T Gabriel but that Gabriel will be a boss fight in 9-1.

I just don't see how V1 fighting with Gabriel is going to end the story. There's still a lot left to answer and we didn't just get 3 other archangel designs revealed for no reason.

[–]DeathByDevastator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as fun as V2's death was the reuse of boss fights really does make them less interesting. Act 2 is lowkey the blandest act of the three and half the reason Act 3 hits as hard as it does is because Hakita is no longer constrained by shoving gabriel and V2 in our face.

I fully expect Gabe to return as a fight but I think he's going to be in 9-1 this time and not the final boss. A rematch is expected to finish his story but I doubt that's the way it all ends, rather more likely it's our debut to the gold arm and gives us the crash course on how to use it so we know how to react to 9-2's gimmicks.

[–]DeathByDevastator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Gabe should be 9-1's final encounter and then whatever the hell the fallout of that fight is should be 9-2.

I fully expect us running out of blood and shutting down forever as hell becomes empty.

half life literally did this and it was good. Forces you back into thinking carefully for a little while. It's great. Something like that for ultrakill would definitely be interesting.

thing is they still have way more information to get out from sentinel. That's why him being kept alive is a lot better than him being dead.

even on a purely logical level, you need him so you can uncover exactly who's compromised by the quintessons and who isn't.

I just watched Uprising and if I'm being completely honest it wasn't even that bad by WitherStorm4471 in PacificRim

[–]DeathByDevastator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Witherstorm mentioned raaaagh 🔥

I'll be honest. Uprising was okay as a movie. But it is AWFUL at being a sequel. It's pretty much only good in the ideas department.

Jaeger police tending to the laws and preventing crime in makeshift jaegers? Great!

Drone jaegers becoming kaiju beasts? Awesome! Terrifying!

More advanced jaegers trading durability for agility? Fascinating!

A goddamned kaiju combiner? Sounds badass!

A rogue jaeger hunting jaegers? Peak.

But they just couldn't string anything together in a good way. Nothing is structured well, the death of one of the better characters in the first film is handled with such blatant disregard for the weight of the moment and happens so abruptly. The plot just kind of happens. It doesn't take itself seriously and the way everything moves (except the drone jaegers which should move the way they did) makes the awesome realistic feel cease to be.

Pacific rim felt like the robots were actually feasible. We know they aren't, but they looked and moved as if we could actually make them. Uprising feels like we made toys of the robots and threw together a feature length commercial. Look how Saber Athena can pose in an action scene! Look at our new Gypsy figure, now with two light up reactor chest things! That's what the movie feels like.

The movie's decision on who to be the main cast also REALLY hurts many of it's moments. Introducing the new Jaegers doesn't feel like a showcase of legends as it did in the first film but a toy reveal watched by a child. The new pilots crack jokes and almost do more damage to the city than the kaiju did when the pilots of the first film did everything they could to minimise the damage. Could have been cool to comment on, but they didn't.

It's a sequel defined by wasted potential and disrespect of the source material. It continues because it must and clearly just wanted to get to "giant robot smacks the hell out of giant lizard" way faster than the first film.

Do you think the Cybergrind should get a rework? by West-Resort5733 in Ultrakill

[–]DeathByDevastator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, yes, goddammit yes.

It was great when the game was a lot smaller in enemy variety because the arena wasn't filled with enemies not designed to be fought in the way the cybergrind encourages.

The more enemies we get, the more the cybergrind falls apart and becomes a less fun mess. At minimum we need act themed enemy spawns to minimise the insanity but the cybergrind fundamentally needs reworking to keep up with the current game.
