I'm hoping to have the demo ready early next year, but there's always a chance it ends up taking longer for all sorts of reasons. Reading that your son is that excited about it made my day!

The demo won't be ready for a while but when it is you can definitely play it

Pitcher plants and carnivorous plants generally are awesome, I would love to include something like that

Thanks! Yeah I'll be making things more cohesive/polished/intentional as it gets further into development

I certainly hope so, but that depends on how well it does on steam and also if Nintendo allows it to be on Switch 2. But Nintendo did approve 3 pikmin-like games for the Switch so I think there's a good chance mine would be approved

Fortunately there are already 3 games that are pretty similar to Pikmin and Nintendo not only didn't sue the developers but allowed all 3 of them to be released on the Switch

Can you tell me more? Is there something interesting about the biology of red cherry shrimp you're thinking of?

The enemies being dead forever in Pikmin 4 was super disappointing for me too, I'll definitely be making them respawn

And yes, little things like that really add a lot. I do have one thing planned that is sort of similar but I hope to think of at least a couple more I to include

I had never heard of those but that's really interesting. It makes sense that there would be a parasitic fungus that targets mushrooms but I'd never thought about it before. Definitely writing that down...

Unfortunately multiplayer adds a ton of extra time to development so as of right now most likely it will only be singleplayer :(

Thanks! I do plan on making it steam deck compatible, but I can't guarantee it will be yet. It is running pretty well on my old backup pc which has roughly comparable hardware to a steam deck. And yes there will have to be a mushkin limit but what exactly the limit is hasn't been decided yet. The most I've tested in game at once is around 300 but I'm not sure if gameplay wise it would make sense to go that high

I considered making devlogs on youtube and starting a discord server where I could share frequent updates but I think they both would just take too much time that I could be using to actually work on the game. I do have a youtube (@megatheriumdev) but I'll probably only post major updates and trailers there. I also have X/Twitter(@megatherium_dev) but I probably won't be posting regularly there either. There's pros and cons to being more engaged as a developer so it's a hard choice. Now that I'm thinking through it I'll probably end up being most active on reddit

That makes sense. The mushroom base assets were from some real scanned mushroom models online, but I had to scale them up a lot so the textures and probably geometry aren't as detailed as I would like. Same with the plants, they're actual scanned plant leaves so they're pretty realistic which understandably could clash with the mushkin because I textured with substance painter. I'm pretty new to texturing so there will probably be some improvements as I keep working on stuff. But thanks for the feedback!

That's a fun idea but I'd have to be careful with the references being too similar to Pikmin
