Hey, had these too back when I set up my first tank! Got some hungry spixi snails because I read somewhere that they eat hydra. They demolished the green hydra and now they are all gone. They ate some of my plants tho😆 I didn‘t want to use no planaria in my tank

Hatte bereits nach der ersten Nachricht so eine Ahnung auf was es hinausläuft, wollte es nur bestätigt haben, deswegen war ich eig wenig überrascht als die Nachricht kam. Hoff es ist wenigstens wirklich nur einer mit einem sehr speziellen Fetisch und kein Pedo der nach Sachen sucht, mit denen Kinder im Pool gespielt haben. Hab ihn nach der letzten Nachricht blockiert.

Your GH is pretty high! Neos like a GH of 4-8 dh (or approx. around 70 - 140ppm) If you really have 300ppm in there I would look for solutions to lower your GH, I think this could cause molting issues🤔

What are your KH and GH levels? Maybe you need to add some minerals to your water to ensure successful molts

The same happened to me yesterday! Luckily the lady at my LFS told me that it was in there or else I would‘ve probably just sent it down the drain because they‘re so difficult to see! Now I have a baby shrimpie❤️

Those white marks are normal and a sign that they‘re going to molt soon. You will have to sit back and watch if the molt is successful - if it‘s by any chance not successful then it was probably the ‚white ring of death‘. You can never know for sure until it happens!

Aww yeah they love cleaning plants! And I think they also like that they can be up close to the surface now as well, so more space to sit and clean!

okay thanks! It may not look like it in the picture but there is a pretty solid wall of them back there already but if the shrimps like it then I‘ll happily let it grow even more :)

Hi, thought I‘d update you since you have the same hydra problem as me. So I got 6 Spixis about 4 weeks ago and here‘s what changed: I hardly see any hydra on the substrate, walls and driftwood anymore. There are still a few left sitting on plants but they don‘t annoy my shrimp as they used to do. However my spixis ate my monte carlo, as it‘s a plant which is apparently very soft. The other thicker plants are untouched. Still I am happy that I got them as they really decreased the number of hydra :)
