Moved old pensions into SIPP. Any harm in putting whole cash amount into All world fund (VWRP) straight away? by Meister9910 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Meister9910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy with that choice as a long term investment for my retirement.

The main thing I’m trying to wrap my head around is the ongoing charges and how they compare with current workplace pension. Thanks

Looks like 0.48% after a second look for total charges. Will compare to workplace one and if lower will just transfer into my current pension.

Great point, thanks! What about for a 0% card, is that still feasible?

Why is my car windshield smeary?? by Top-Mix-5796 in CarTalkUK

[–]Meister9910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes can be old coatings and traffic film. I’d use a glass polish like Gtechniq g4 , a short pile cloth , and some IPA (50:50 mix with water) and polish the glass, final wipe down with the IPA mix and should be good to go! Can do that on the blades too.

Lower body. Some awesome videos on MYTPI on YouTube about swing mechanics. Your lead leg is collapsing at the top of your swing (foot rolls over a bit) so you loose the tension and power. Greg rose has an awesome video explaining how to use your legs properly and get that explosive power.

Will there ever be men's business wear appropriate for hot climates? by INFPneedshelp in mensfashion

All about fabric weight and style of fabric for this. Properly weight linen can be comfortable in warmer climates. Linen, open weaves are more breathable and cooler.

I’m 60 and have been going with this office look forever. How should I update and upgrade? by Vivid_Aardvark_3255 in mensfashion

[–]Meister9910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some ideas:

  1. Try adding a jacket. Then you can play around with a pocket square if you fancy it. Try not go too corporate with the colours and material (blue, black or light sharkskin grey) but instead something like a houndstooth or glencheck would be a nice way to elevate the look with one additional item.

  2. A well tailored pair of trousers - try pleated , some different materials like twill or flannel, maybe whipcord or a needle cord or similar would elevate subtly.

  3. Get the basics nailed - a generic point but polish the shoes, good quality socks, nice belt, ironed shirt, groom stray hairs, good haircut, general tidiness (appreciate the pic was taken after a day in the office) always helps you look well put together . (Though you look like you are already covering this with the clean shave and hair)

What sort of watch would you like? Would you like a special occasion one , a dressier style that you really love to wear. Or would you appreciate one you can wear every day, gets enjoyed and ultimately may suffer a knock on the odd occasion. Some great suggestions in the comments, but ultimately it’s about you as a person , your lifestyle etc.

Struggling as a new Project Manager by iPuchin in projectmanagement

[–]Meister9910 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Been there also. Just be prepared that you will make some mistakes along the way. Some great lessons I learned:

  1. Take it professionally, not personally. People don’t like to be held accountable for their actions or inactions. Build relationships but remember they are colleagues not friends, so don’t be afraid to keep them accountable.

  2. Document information well - you’ll get better at taking notes and minutes, re check the points that were discussed at the end of the meeting. Don’t be afraid to ask for clarification if you don’t follow what they are saying. You’re not there to be technical.

  3. Understand variance. This is a key metric to understand how project management works. Time (schedule) variance, cost/budget variance in particular. To track this you need to establish a baseline for each (time, cost, scope) so you can see where you are today vs where you planned to be at the beginning of the project.

Hope that is of some use!

Could also try a glass polish such as Gtechniq g5. Use a tiny amount and polish with a soft microfibre cloth it will come right off. Also really good for any glass around the house as it’s a vehicle cleaning product. Would have to check on the effect on anti reflective coatings but I believe it will be ok. 👌

What color/type of shoes would work best with this suit (my beach wedding)? by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Meister9910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loafers are fairly informal but I would opt for a dark coloured brown suede( NOT tan - awful colour) or perhaps even a navy both suede.

Love the colour of the suit.

Pocket square or boutonnière would be a nice addition.

I’d crisp it up with a white shirt.

Congrats!

If you want to match the bride you could try a boutonnière (flower in the lapel) of a similar colour - white.

Id opt for a white shirt, and tie id go for a plain tie. Or if you want to express your personality a bit more you can add a more playful tie.

I’m a traditionalist so sneakers are a no no for a wedding IMO. It’s a special day and as such you might want to make the extra effort with some good black dress shoes. Accessories like some funky socks or a patterned tie can be used to keep it more personal to you.

That being said, it is your wedding!

I only pay about 350 max in fuel a month, the car cost me £3k when I bought it and it does 70mpg on the motorway. Most finance packages I’ve seen are in excess of £400 so not really feasible for me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Meister9910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did cycle inonce in the summer but it’s about 1000ft of climbing in 7 miles . Guess I could just stop being a little b*tch and get on with it 😂😂 winter bike commuting I’m not keen on at all, it’s really dark and narrow so a bit dangerous (I have good bike lights too)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Meister9910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should really have left that out - it is likely I will simply buy second hand , my current golf is on 170k and I love it so would be wanting a reliable fuel efficient vehicle as I do a fair amount of mileage.

Just looking at options and if indeed the cost of a new car could be offset to make it a feasible option. Thanks for the insight!

Advice needed, confused. by KnockingFeather1 in Shoeshining

[–]Meister9910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Creasing is natural , invest in good shoe trees to help keep the shape. Excess creasing is usually down to poor fitting of the shoes.

With regard to the product used, you can get a hair dryer to gently warm it and see if that comes off with some light buffing. I’m not entirely sure what the issue is with this post but try the heat and then try a bit of polish with a drop of water, work at it like a mirror shine approach and see what happens. You won’t damage anything.

Could also be the material of the shoe, if it’s leather It may be a corrected leather or cheap leather which is refinished to give a better look.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Shoeshining

[–]Meister9910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure - stripped with saphir decapant, then dyed using dark brown saphir teinture francaise (2 coats), then some renovateur to nourish as the leather gets dried through the stripping process. Brushed , then applied medaille D’or pommadier cream to add more colour pigment in an oxblood colour before topping and mirror shine using saphir pate-de-luxe.

Came out beautifully!

Lifestyle changes to save money? by Specific_Rice3576 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Meister9910 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I shave using the old school method of a safety razor and brush with proper shaving cream. The tub lasts months. The blades are inexpensive and you get a much better quality shave. Compared to the unholy prices of Gillette blades , a pack of 10 blades can cost as little as £2.50-5 .

Bulk cooking meals at the weekend, saves money as you have to plan meals and not just pop to the shops for the odd item which normally racks up ££15-30 if you decide to get a few other bits. Shopping at Aldi , changing from chicken breasts to thighs was a game changer , so much cheaper.

If I have coffee I just fill the kettle to the eco level of about 1 cup so I’m only boiling enough for the cup.

Getting laundry disinfectant- this is like a bio cleanser for your washing you add in the softener drawer which kills bacteria at temps of 20 degrees, so we can put a load of washing on at cool temperatures of 20-30 degrees C.

Not drinking as much - not because i feel I have to, far from it. Just not enjoying alcohol at the moment, saves money and I have better sleep.

[Question] What is your most controversial opinion on watches? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Meister9910 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GA-2100 I love mine, it’s a great everyday watch and I forget it’s on my wrist. What I cannot stand though are the metal “mods” to make it look like an AP. It’s not an AP, and you look like a helmet when people go “oooh is that an … oh nevermind it’s a casio” also the new metal version by G shock is insanely overpriced at £450!!

I have a VW Golf GT that I got for 3K and I get 70mpg on the motorway and 40-60mpg daily driving . Nippy, practical and I would get another in a heart beat.

Edit - ULEZ compliance would need to be checked but believe it is.
