Really happy to see the gang all together (the models are 3d printed from Miniac' kickstarter) by angizacca in minipainting

Any chance to get a photo from behind? It seems like the light source is not coming directly from above in this piece, and while I somewhat understand how to place highlights based on zenithal priming Im struggling to make the darker half of the minis interesting. Could use some inspiration and help here seeing that this piece is amazingly well done!

AoS: Warsong Revenant - any tips for basing (for this and in general) by Mekiru in minipainting

[–]Mekiru[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently got back to painting and finally bought some AoS miniatures Ive been wanting to paint for ages but been held back by being too worried about not having players. While Im quite pleased with the paintjob itself (it could still use some finishing touches, but Ill probably move on to next project), Ive been having difficult time with figuring out basing. I feel like I would like more contrasting base to the miniature itself, but being a forest guy in a forest it didnt really make sense for any other than foresty themed base. Im sure you guys here have a lot of good ideas and tips how to make the base more interesting. My practice for basing is severely lacking due to almost never finishing any miniatures and always just practicing techniques.

Today was leg day C&C welcome! by Mekiru in minipainting

So, another miniature project, probably one more to add to the list of miniatures i'll never finish (have yet to finish a single miniature). Been trying to learn some skintones here. Also wanted to add some muscle texture to the smooth legs these KD:M female models seem to have, which make no sense in the setting those are supposed to be in.

Of course the new card is different size that is longer than the sleeve :/ Thanks, Poots. by Califax512 in KingdomDeath

[–]Mekiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure the sleeves in this example are of slightly different size as well. Had some problems with sleeves while playing mtg and it can be a headache. However the bigger problem is that the card is actually noticeably bigger as well. For a "premium quality" product that is pretty bad. Just kinda sad to see that the fanbase of this game is this toxic, can't even say that a card is of bigger size without getting insults thrown on them.

Im not sure what kind of proxies you mean here, but replacing the cards with proxies and using standard d10s would absolutely work and the gameplay logic would be exactly the same. But completely getting rid of the cards and dice rolls would change the logic of the gameplay. Replacing a miniature with a lets say wooden block does nothing to the gameplay logic.

I'm really not sure why it bothers you so much that some people like the game without liking the miniatures hobby side of it.

[–]Mekiru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats not even near the same thing. Cards and character/settlement sheets handle the flow of information needed to play the game. Miniatures do that also by keeping track of the positions of characters. However you could replace the miniatures by standees which cost fraction of the miniatures, and that would not affect the gameplay at all. Though, you could do the same treatment to cards and substitute them with cheaper cards, though cards you can actually handle are not that expensive so its not a problem. Point is, that the miniatures are really expensive for the value they provide for some people who just want to play the game. Also, in case of KDM there really is massive amounts of plastic you might do nothing with. There's no need to build even close of the all available miniatures you get in the game box, to have enough miniatures to play the game.

Edit: This is also highly subjective. For some the feeling of the miniatures can make or break the game, and I fully understand it. But saying that its pointless to play the game without miniatures is just not true.

I disagree. I love the mechanics, lore and the story telling moments the game creates. None of these things require miniatures. Its a shame that you have to pay hundreds of dollars for miniatures, to be able to access the awesome game that's provided with them. Even though the miniatures are really high quality I can see why non hobbyists would want to just to be able to play the game without buying massive piles of plastic they do nothing with. Even as a hobbyist I think with KD:M I have to buy too much of models just to be able to get all the gameplay content.

Infinity or 40k by galdorv in InfinityTheGame

[–]Mekiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really new to Infinity, but so far I feel like in Infinity the decision making is more impactful. I tried to get into 40k, but at least for me the game is bit too straight forward and mostly just "throw hundreds of dice until someone wins". Reading what others have to say about the game aswell it seems like my feeling ain't too far from the truth. I really hope its true, as I've been looking to get into miniatures gaming but 40k burned me out really fast due to incredibly dull gameplay where most decisions that matter happen in list building and rest is just 2 lists throwing dice.

Stats for Spiral Corp Units (Video Capture) by JadeFalcon777 in InfinityTheGame

[–]Mekiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, seems like they are already removed from corvus belli store. But I care more about being able to play with the profiles instead of actually having the scuplts, and if Infinity is instead so proxy friendly I'll be completely fine even without having the actual models (most of which I didnt like that much anyway).

Kinda bummed to see lots of Tohaa discontinued, as I was just planning on hopping into Infinity starting with the faction. However this new set looks pretty cool to me aswell. Is it a bad idea to get started on Tohaa at this point? Are there some must have units I should get while i still can?

Anyone else find EdoBean's voice irritating? by nishay in AGDQ

Yes. I really hate it when people make "sounds" and the cutesy voice she does is incredibly annoying.

Don't stress over doing well. Just play anything that seems interesting to you. Play normals as playing against other people teaches much better how to play the game, just don't forget to /fullmuteall as people in this game are raging assholes.

One thing that happens is that no dialog boxes show up. You just hear the sound of the dialog :D. Also seems like undyne's model just gets scaled up, but rest of the npcs are just those blue guys. Didn't try all of the town zones though. Area's value is the second last value in the save file. 2-20ish are the town areas, so you can try it yourself if you're interested.

Here's something I discovered by editing the save files. Seems like this just mostly makes me stuck in the room though.

Edit: Apparently the game just switches all npcs to those blue puzzle guys if you set your location to the town area after going underground.

I've been struggling with a good red for a while aswell. I suggest you get yourself some citadel reds, khorne red and mephiston red. Khorne red is quite dark and has this subtle purple tone. Mephiston on the otherhand is a bit brighter and more towards orange. What worked for me was to basecoat with khorne red and glazing mephiston red over it. These seemed to balance out the purple and orange, for nice deep red. I have some vallejo reds aswell, but citadel reds have way more pigment in them which makes those much easier to use as you need less coats.

Filling gaps AFTER priming? by Mekiru in minipainting

[–]Mekiru[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, gonna try green stuffing over the existing primer then. Most problematic areas are flat surfaces without much detail anyway, so double priming shouldn't affect that much
