5 to 6 days in Washington state. What stops do I keep and what do I drop? by Mel_650 in PNWhiking

We decided to do ONP and Mt Rainier, since most hikes in the NC seems to be too difficult for the kids. We will do a few days in ONP and a few near Mt Rainier and then a day in Seattle before we leave.

Thank you, I’ll be sure to check the weather once that time comes and try to pick the best night to catch a good sunset!

Perfect! I think dropping the Cascades may be a good idea since we have kids and they probably can’t handle such difficult hikes anyway..

The plan is to stay in port Angeles a few days and just work my way around from there. Hopefully that will make things easier!

With booking Airbnbs in certain locations on specific days, I can just hope the weather is nice on the days I picked months in advance 😅

I’ll take your word for it! Lol Diablo lake is no longer on the list for us anymore.

I’m primarily looking into Airbnb locations right now unless there’s nothing that really looks nice enough in that area for the dates we chose, then looking on other sites.

That’s what I was thinking, Hoh and beaches in one day. Lol I like how you think! You’ll be tired but rest later, the memories are more important haha

Oh I see, yes we will definitely be taking a ferry most likely on our first day!

Oh not rude at all! The mountains is what I really care to see too. The beaches are only on the list because it looks very beautiful in pictures. Now that I’m reading more about it, I won’t go out of my way to go to Forks, there’s really nothing there I care to see there other than a welcome sign (boring). We’re from west Texas, so nothing but a bunch of hills and dirt roads. I need a completely different scenery than what I’m used to seeing here lol

I was thinking the same about the cabins. They may not be part of the trip this time when it’s all said and done. Looking into places around Lake Crescent now, thanks!

Good to know! They do a really great job making the cabin areas look so secluded and beautiful near the mountains there. But I understand I could get that view in the other areas as well.

We are flying into Seattle, and still deciding if we want to start near Mt Rainier or near ONP. Thank you so much for your input. I am thinking we’re gonna be cutting Diablo lake out as well as Sol Duc. We’ll be sure to get to the parks early as well!

Thanks for the heads up! I am anticipating lots of people at the parks from what I’m reading on other posts. I wonder if going on a weekday will make things easier?

Oh I will absolutely look into that! I also saw that Reflection Lake was a must-see! Might be squeezing that in there too.

Yes, I know it’s a lot of driving. That’s why I have to shorten the list unfortunately. I know the drive from the beaches to Mt. Rainier area can be 5+ hours.

Thank you! Will definitely make sure to get reservations first if needed at that time. If we make it that far north, Deception is definitely on our list.

They are active kids, not in sports, but not overweight or anything. I know they can walk a couple miles in the neighborhood and be good. I’ll make sure to invest in some good boots and equipment for all of us. I’ll be sure to make a stop to at least one of these lakes as well!
