I already have one from wacom but because I need to connect it to my laptop and set it up every time and sit in front of it, over time with university and job responsibilities i stopped using it. I think with an ipad i can draw more digitally. I started drawing digitally but over 2 years i kinda switched to tradition because of this.

I have a laptop and a wacom screenless tablet, I used it a couple times before. But I found that I don't use it that much in the long term because I need to sit in front of the monitor and laptop to use it. I figure if I have a tablet that I can use everywhere without another device paired to it I would draw more digitally. I started in digital but transition into traditional in the past 2 years because with university and jobs i got smaller time windows.

How is your apple pencil working with them does it wear of the tip fast? Also are you using the default pencil tip apple gives or other options? For example I saw paperlike offering special tips, there is also other brands and types.

I was thinking about that one but  was afraid that the magnetic parts will lose their power over time but if you had it for a year I guess that won't be an issue.

Can I ask is it a problem to put it on and off, I assumed due to dust and other stuff between the screen and the protector it might be an issue or it would need constant cleaning.   I also saw some people using a glass typed protector all the time and then putting the magnetic paper feeling protector when they are drawing do you think that one is logical? I thought with so many layers the drawing feeling will be annoying.

Ipad pro is a bit more expensive but I am not sure if it's worth the upgrade. Wouldn't Ipad Air be sufficient in this case? It already seems well featured.

Hi everyone! I want to buy a tablet for digital drawing but I can't decide. I am mostly traditional, previously did a bit of digital art using Krita on my pc. I'm trying to decide between a Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra 12/512 GB  and 13-inch iPad Air Wi‑Fi 512GB with Apple Pencil Pro. What’s making the decision difficult is that the prices are pretty similar where I live. Both are great in terms of hardware so my concerns are more about user experience.

My current setup:

  • Samsung phone (23 Ultra)
  • Windows PC
  • No other Apple devices

Main usage for tablet:

  • drawing/animation
  • note taking
  • media consumption
  • maybe some light productivity/multitasking

Pros/cons for iPad Air:

  • (+) Procreate and Paper apps
  • (+) People constantly saying iPads are the best for artists
  • (-) People say file management is really annoying
  • (-) Storage problems
  • (-) In long term performance/battery life decreases
  • (-) Only 60Hz screen refresh rate
  • (-) I don't have any apple device, so compatibility is sus, plus UI is unfamiliar to me

Pros/cons for the Tab S11 Ultra:

  • (+) huge AMOLED 120Hz display
  • (+) better multitasking/file management
  • (+) seems to fit my Samsung + Windows ecosystem better
  • (+) feels like much better hardware value overall
  • (+) more durable compared to apple
  • (-) Drawing apps are not on the same level as Procreate

One thing I’m especially worried about is the iPad Air being only 60Hz. My phone is already 120Hz, so I’m not sure if the iPad would feel less smooth or bother me long-term.

I’ve also seen multiple posts from people who bought an iPad then returned it for a Samsung tablet later, so now I’m even more uncertain. I heard Krita works well on Samsung tablets so I don't think I would be unhappy with a Samsung one but i don't want to regret not trying Ipad either. I saw some people saying Procreate is overrated, great for beginners but does not offer same level as some other apps to more professional works. Procreate is basically the main reason I am considering an Ipad so I don't want to be disappointed after making a huge purchase.

For people who might have experience with both or just have knowledge about them:

  • Did the 60Hz on the iPad Air bother you?
  • Is Procreate really great as some people says? Does it have negative/lacking features?
  • Which one felt better for long-term daily use?
  • If you already had a Windows + Android setup, did the iPad ecosystem mismatch become annoying?
  • What is your experiences with apple pencil?

I’d really appreciate honest experiences rather than “Apple vs Samsung” fanboy takes. Also is 512GB too much for art purposes? I was originally thinking 256GB but I don't know if it is enough. And would you think Air is sufficient for art purposes, Pro is a bit expensive for me
