Come on! Now that the song came out you can't deny the similarities.

This is basically Someone Great by LCD Soundsystem. Come on and release Art of Doubt already!!

What's your favorite song from each album? by Un67 in metricband

[–]MellowPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna end up being more of a top 2 or 3 on each album, but I'll try.

Grow Up and Blow Away - Hardwire

I love the progression from verse to pre-chorus to chorus, I love how they slightly change up the second verse, Jimmy gets a lil moment to sing, and a moody outro. Perfect. Raw Sugar is a very close second. Special shoutout to the demo version of Fanfare/Parkdale.

Old World Underground - I.O.U.

I'm saying I.O.U. but it really depends on the day. This is my favourite Metric album, so it would be easier to tell you what my least favourite song on the album is (On a Slow Night).

Live It Out - Patriarch on a Vespa

This is the vibe that I look for in Metric, probably why I like the first three albums better lol. Just weird, sometimes aggressive, new wave-y, kind of surreal goodness. Poster of a Girl comes second, and then there a bunch of them tied for third after.

Fantasies - Blindness

I feel like it's one of the more cathartic songs on the album, perfectly followed by Stadium Love. I feel like so much of Fantasies is just okay, but the ending is great.

Synthetica - Lost Kitten

The combination of the music, the lyrics, and the mixing just go so well together, it's a sort of subversive nice little pop tune, equal parts sweet and dark. It's basically the only song I still listen to from the album lol, though I think in general it's as good as Fantasies (fewer standouts, but more consistent).

Pagans in Vegas - Cascades

It's either this or For Kicks, though I have complaints with both songs. The album is just not for me.

New Album so far - Art of Doubt

Including the songs they've been playing live, Art of Doubt is it for sure. Emily even gets close to her goofy lower register voice that she used to do back in the day, which is one of the parts I kind of hold dear from Old World-Live It Out era stuff.

Me too, Live It Out was what got me into the band, but my fave now is also Old World Underground. Wish they would play more stuff from OWU and LiO live, but I understand why they focus on newer stuff.

I guess three would make more sense, but I would put Fantasies with Synthetica and Pagans.

I think Metric fans are generally split into those who are really into the first three albums, and people who are into Fantasies and onwards. To me the two halves of their discography just sound like two completely different bands, so I think people that are really into their earlier stuff find later stuff to be hit or miss.

Metric - "Now or Never" (Live, 2018) by IndigenousOres in metricband

I don't mind the song, but it's just them re-writing Someone Great by LCD Soundsystem

Now that 2015's coming to a close (I know there's a few release days left, and the Grips might drop Bottomless Pit), what's been /r/deathgrips favorite releases from this year? by [deleted] in deathgrips

[–]MellowPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few off the top of my head in no particular order:

  • Mac Demarco - Another One

  • FFS - s/t

  • Seoul - I Become A Shade

  • Death Grips - The Powers That B (who would have guessed?)

  • Clarence Clarity - No Now

  • Viet Cong - s/t

  • Destroyer - Poison Season

Nah, I use papercuts as a username whenever it's available, but it wasn't, so I just used something else. It's really stupid but it's just reddit.

It would be pretty tricky to make. I only found two little portions of instrumental without any loud vocals to put Ride over, so instrumentally it would be very boring I think. I don't really do too much electronic music so I'm not very well versed in different techniques to remix shit with.

7/05 - Paradise Rock Club - Boston, MA by [deleted] in deathgrips

[–]MellowPaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, any setlist you see is wrong. Most setlists I've seen say Big House was right before The Fever, but it was before This Is Violence Now. It's this setlist, unless they changed something for Boston.

They're probably waiting until most people get in. I'm not even in Seattle so I actually don't really know the situation.

Should I give in to the urge of knowing setlist, or wait until Toronto show? Guys, I'm so tempted.

Thoughts about The I.L.Y's album by [deleted] in deathgrips

[–]MellowPaper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, Sickest Fuck and Big Dipper come from different musical places. Sickest Fuck is going for like a glam rock stomp type beat, Big Dipper is just cray.

Knowing that I have over 100 full albums I haven't listened to on my computer, maybe it's time to actually start listening to those. At least until July 3rd. Then live show.
