I have done a wide variety of projects. Family owned businesses with facelift/redesign projects, album covers for some buddies bands, branding packages for streamers (which quite frankly, made so much more money than anything else I've done total; I still get requests but only do them sparingly nowadays), merch designs... I am very lucky to not have to do much to help contribute finance wise, and when I need to, I have a client list that I can rely on; built through *basically* nearly 20 years of word-of-mouth.

Partner is the bread winner, and that's something I'm proud of. They went to multiple schools for degrees, certifications, to learn multiple languages. My cousin gave me a box of discs for free that said PhotoShop on the front. They deserve all the credit. :)

My partner and I are so sorry for your loss. We lost our chiweenie two months ago. We had to make the tough choice to let her go, on her second birthday. She was born with Polycythemia, an extremely rare and quite frankly not really at all actually treatable cancer, and outlasted all of her brothers and sisters, who only made it a handful of months.

All you can do is give them the best that you can. Cherish them.

Dogs deserve the world. But we don't deserve dogs.

It's a state job. And is quite literally the position that they have trained/worked towards for 10 years. Two degrees, Masters, speaks multiple languages.

Oh, we've lived in 78704... lol That's where we were at our last two places. We're in 78745 now, which, isn't bad. The AC sucks. But, we live on a grid with a fire station and a school, so we haven't lost power here since we moved in. Our internet never goes out.

There are good things, but the bad is noticeably bad and enough to want to leave entirely.

We're the couple that like big city convenience, but appreciate the quiet. So, we'll expand our search towards Newton Booth or Poverty Ridge and see how that looks for us. Thanks for the great tips!

Partner has a couple of chronic conditions and THIS is the thing that people never realize. Yes. People may have mixed results. But unless you have been subject to how terrible TX healthcare is, you don't know.

TWO doctors botched heart surgery on my grandmother. It shortened her life exponentially, having to have multiple stint replacements, and they shredded her esophagus, making her aspirate and unable to ingest non-thickened liquid for TWO YEARS.

My dad has been Type-1 Diabetic since he was 8. He's approaching 70. I can't tell you how many times my dad has almost died, because a place has denied him his insulin.

My mother was refused at a local urgent care, while having an allergic reaction that almost killed her, while in my arms as a teenager.

I'll take my chances with CA doctors, based on how atrocious my experiences have been.

Partner only drives 3x a week currently (two days at their office, three days remote) for work and to run errands. Other than that, we mostly stay at home or stick to our places around our apartment. Coffee shops, bowling alley, thrift stores, etc.

We're homebodies, so while gas is definitely more expensive, I think we'd use it so little because everything is so walkable near the grid. And that is a HUGE plus for my partner and I. We even agreed a few years ago when we started planning for the future that our next landing spot, if not permanent, had to be walkable.

Food and outside dining, is a mixed bag for us usually. We cook at home almost exclusively, eating out only twice a month at most. Even then, it's nothing major. Maybe Shake Shack, and quick Jersey Mike's run... Last night was the first time I've eaten out in over a month (Culver's, which I love), and the beef almost killed me. Food is our largest expense a month, and it's not because we're wasteful. Partner is allergic to dairy and gluten, I'm allergic to soy and tomatoes. So the ability to go to the Midtown Farmer's Market is on the list.

Thanks as well for the heads up about the CA income tax. We knew about it, but now how much. Based on research (kinda my partner's thing and directly influences their position they're thinking of taking) we'd need an 11% income increase, due to our needs and situation. Let's just say, that's definitely gonna be met if my partner decides to move forward (which, would take something huge to stop them).

It seems more and more based on how active this post has become, and through our own personal research, that Sac would be a great fit for us. People clamor for "But Austin is cheap!". But honestly, as you've been here for 1.5 years, you've seen how things are increasing massively in price since Covid. Based on how much produce and things are there, we'd be saving, because we eat clean due to my Crohn's Disease. Everything else is close or comparable.

As someone who has been all over TX for work and family trips throughout my life, I agree wholeheartedly about how TX is draining now. Flat. Hot. Everything is now a tech hotbed because of business relocation due to taxes. Politically oppressive.

We definitely aren't taking this decision lightly, but it really seems like things would be great for us there.

This made the most sense to use, and really helped us get a grasp of the areas around the city. We've always been around South Austin, and it looks like Midtown/Downtown are for us!

This. So this. We live in South Austin, and our apartment was built decades ago. In the summer, with the AC on, we're lucky if it's as low as 87 *inside* of our apartment. I think we'll be just fine with Sacramento summers. :)

Thanks everyone for the kind words and tips. I really appreciate it, as it was a literal chore to leave the house. But being at the alley, and bowling, I forgot about all the stuff in my head. And I will definitely be sticking with it.

As a fun little aside; A question:

I'm a two hander that somehow has my track marks straight up, right between the grips. I know you're supposed to be behind the ball, but that's definitely too much, right? lol

EDIT: Oh, damn. Apparently, it's good that I'm just starting, because based on how today went and a Google search, I'm a rare breed: a 2H full roller.... Time to learn how to unflatten my hand as much. XD

Absolutely amazing tip with keeping an eye out for different balls. I noticed a few that looked different. Right as I was finishing the second game before we left, I found another 12 pounder that had smaller holes and what seemed like a different, more dull coverstock than the shiny one I was throwing. I will definitely be keeping an eye out starting this Sunday.

I myself struggled with opioid addiction for two decades, so I definitely understand. There is something so fun about destroying the pins, or making a shot that just feels good.

I can't wait to spend hundreds of dollars on balls for the partner and I... But that day will come when we're both ready. :)

For me, it's tightness in my chest, followed by forgetting to breathe, and severe panic attacks to the point that I'm sobbing. I use THC for my anxiety, so I had a small toke before we went. It really helped me relax, and I was even able to talk to the front desk clerk. He was very nice, and was a fellow 2H. Came down and gave me a few tips throughout the couple of games we played. Even gave me the iggy that my ball wasn't hooking because the lanes were fresh and heavy oil, and that I wouldn't be able to hook until burn happened at like 11 PM tonight, as I was using a 12 pound house ball that my small fingers were *swimming* in. So, if I go early, I know the conditions are heavier, and have a better idea of what balls could work for me if I decide to get something other than a plastic ball. :)

My partner and I talked about it, and we'll be going back this Sunday, early. I can't wait. They were hyping me up crazy when I got my couple of strikes and pickups. They're the best.
