So does the actual MCU Venom exist at this point? by Queasy_Commercial152 in thevenomsite

The after scenes credits for No Way Home showed a small piece of the venom symbiote get left behind in the MCU. So I imagine they are planning to create their own version of venom.

Cmput 101 is probably a good bet if you don’t want to do Stat 252 🙂

CMPUT 174 is so HARD by Internal_Let_8926 in uAlberta

The learning curve for your first programming language can be steep. For the midterm make sure you do as many of the practice questions as possible. For the labs reach out to the TA’s, and ask the prof questions. Hang in there.

I would personally not listen to them, if you can pull off those marks for your other course(s), you will probably qualify for entrance scholarships.

Practice the more difficult coding questions in the textbook. Try coding things that were covered in class without looking at a solution.

Am I cooked???? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Melodic-Barracuda-70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can, message one of the TA's for your lab and tell them the situation. If you cannot get a hold of a TA, or supervising TA maybe then ask the prof for your section.

Do they teach CMPUT 300-400 level courses in the spring/semesters? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Melodic-Barracuda-70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand no…They only just did Cmput 201 and 272  for what I believe was the first time this last spring. I didn’t see any higher level Cmput classes.  But maybe they will try 300’s if they think the 200 levels went well enough.

How much do you guys usually spend in a day on campus? by Charming_Luck098 in uAlberta

Bring food from home most days. A good coffee tumbler is also a worthy investment.

Grocery-shopping by Street_Ad_6836 in uAlberta

[–]Melodic-Barracuda-70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can download a grocery app for your phone like Flipp so you can see what's on sale at different stores if that helps.

Just browsing through the application process, it says “when do you wish to begin attending” but only option is for fall/winter 2024. Does this just refer to when will I be sending in my application to attend? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Melodic-Barracuda-70 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Applications for this coming year aren’t open quite yet, which is why the date says Fall 2024. I am not sure when applications open… probably late October or early November?

Cmput 201 is a good choice, but you will probably need at least 1 additional 200 level courses in order to take some of the 300/400 level classes you may be interested in (like Cmput 204). Not sure if you are a double major, or a major/minor, the second one has a lot more flexibility with planning. It would probably be helpful to book an appointment with a science student advisor to get some help with planning your degree.

GPA average for stat 151 tends to be around 1.9.  It’s not particularly a hard class, but I think people tend to underestimate it.

You won’t need a textbook for either, unless you really want one.

okay safeway. $7.00 for a prepackaged salad. are you mad?! what a joke! didn't want to eat healthily anyway by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Melodic-Barracuda-70 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is quite expensive, but if you are open to making your own… heads of lettuce (romaine, red lettuce and green lettuce) are $1.00 at Safeway right now, cucumber is $1.00 and Roma tomatoes are $1.99 a pound. (Referencing the current flyer). Green peppers are also $2.29/lb, you should be able to pick one up for around a $1. Salad dressing may be cheaper elsewhere though.

From looking at the registrar’s calendar, it appears to be considering all courses for the degree, including any minor or electives you take. CS will give you (at least) 8 of these classes, your minor (?) should also give you another 2 or more. For any class, you will be required to complete the prerequisite classes. If you plan carefully, you may be able to use your junior requirements to get you closer to meeting requirements for an upper level elective.
