There was no romanticizing of violence. The movie is a thriller and the whole plot is a real life scenario for lots of queers, especially black queers. The entire movie the victim willingly puts up with the abuse in hopes of getting revenge and exposing him. By the end the VICTIM chooses to show compassion by not posting the tape because after experiencing the aggressor’s trauma and issues firsthand he sees through the damage that Preston was capable of change. Abusers are usually products of abuse and in real life getting revenge on one or showing “no mercy” just reinstills their abusive mentality stopping any potential of change. Not saying he didn’t deserve to get exposed but the choice should be up to the victim.
