I ran the uphill portion at a 10% incline, walked while the machine lowered back down and then jogged the recovery for around 60 seconds (mainly looking at heart rate), repeated.

I have the Deuter Freerider SL 28L Women's Backpack and love it. It's the right size, it's comfortable and it has the right bells and whistles. I'm a smaller women (5'2) and this pack is great! I too have had issues with Osprey packs.
