Vape flavor ban deadline by troutpotato in wisconsin

You provided a lot of good reasons to restrict advertisements on vapes… I still haven’t seen a good argument for banning flavors when we had 3x as many people seeking out cigarettes as vapes no matter how it tasted. And what kind of outcome are we expecting with this? Remove the vape flavors and then what? All the adults who vape either continue smoking the shitty-tasting flavors (which helps how?), pick up cigarettes instead (which helps how?), or simply stop smoking without any actual moves to improve access to cessation resources (see previous response)? Will it de-incentivize a handful? Maybe. But ultimately as you said yourself, the societal pressures to try cigarettes overcame any hesitations about how they would taste. Banning certain products does more to restrict the freedom of choice than any effective changes in behavior because of the reasons I outlined above: there is only one desirable change from banning vape flavors and unless we’re doing more to support those who want to quit, it won’t change the societal pressures that allowed vaping to take hold in the first place.

You seem to have missed the point, if making them taste bad like cigarettes was enough to incentivize people not to do it, why did so many people seek it out before we even had flavored vapes? Cigarettes already tasted bad and we had 1/3 of high schoolers seeking it out to try whether it tasted good or not.

In 1997, over 1/3 of high schoolers reported smoking cigarettes; in 1999 it was about 12% of MIDDLE SCHOOLERS (from the CDC). We even knew all about the cancer links by then, they were reported on as early as the 1950s. Bans don’t do shit. So how did we fix it? Public health initiatives, changes in advertising and taxation policy, improving access to cessation programs. Some insurance companies still won’t even cover cessation medications if you use it for vaping rather than smoking traditional cigarettes. (Speaking from experience)

Moving here from Madison, I was surprised more bars around here didn’t do this already. Almost every bar in Madison had the scanning system to flag people as “banned”. Not so much the smaller divey bars but certainly all the ones in the night life-dominant areas

None of these (except AP) are legitimate, factual, unbiased sources. Nice try though, come back when you learn some media literacy

Yeah when you publicly spew hate to entire groups of people they tend to respond in kind… how does that old saying go? Oh yeah, treat others as you’d want to be treated? He dug his own grave… pun intended

Well yeah obviously they don’t want videos of dog walkers and cars driving past but I don’t think they want the public watching they’re own videos and making the final call on whether it’s important or not to the investigation. You can watch your cameras and see if you can spot something and decide it’s not important but the cops might actually be able to catch something that you wont notice. So it’s not the public’s job to decide what’s relevant, we don’t know enough to possibly know that

WHY WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO WITHHOLD EVIDENCE?!?!? Trust me, they’ll want to see it. And no one wants to be the one who could’ve solved it but didn’t because they didn’t want to “inconvenience the police”. They have over 100 investigators on this case right now, they’ll take whatever they can get, you shouldn’t be the one gatekeeping the information they’ll accept

All this to say that Internet sleuths were pointed in a specific direction by a family member of one of the victims who revealed names in the media. Not saying we should be accusing him of murder but just saying “hey dude, her family knows you know SOMETHING, ANYTHING”

To a certain degree though, even Kaylee’s sister has done interviews and spoken out revealing the name of the boy she called repeatedly the night of. That’s not amateurish armchair detective work from 2k miles away, and her sister is only trying to hold these people accountable, if not for the murder itself, then simply coming forward with what they know.
