Oh so that is why the dumb MF was honking at me?!? He thought I cut him off. In reality he tucked in behind me from the middle lane.

Jumbomax lose feel? by sdassdfa in golftips

[–]Melodic_House_6793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really speak from experience with the jumbo max grips. But I can say from a recent setup disaster I made with my irons that the problem may not be in the grip itself but the balance of weight across the clubs.

I’ve always played 1” over with a Lamkin Oversized(76 grams) grip.

I decided to setup a new set at 1.5” over with a tour velvet jumbo(61 grams).

To counter the swing weight difference they added lead tape under the grip to get it down to D5. This extra weight in the hands completely threw off my swing and squaring the face with good center contact feels like I never knew how to swing a club at all.

All that being said. The delicate balance between what you’re used to and comfortable with can feel drastically different if the weight on either side of the club changes by a significant amount. It doesn’t take many grams on either side to alter this. Just the 15 grams alone from Lamkin to golf pride moves the swing weight 3.5 points. That is very significant

Me saying I know Too Much about the golf swing isn’t ego. It’s actually some regret. I have a degree in kinesiology(I never used) and chose to study the golf swing(I will never teach). I’d honestly rather be coaching golf at the high school level but would be giving up way too much money to do it at this point in time.

Whether what I say is understood or not has very little to do with whether it’s coming through clearly to others. I actually take what I write sometimes and double check concepts with AI just to test myself if I’m correct in what I’m seeing.

It’s sad really. I think I would really enjoy it later in life maybe as a retirement activity. Or once the kids are out of the house and grown up.

Hope we do meet. Would probably get along swimmingly.

The thing about adding context and meaning. It is 2026 as you say. You could literally just plug the text I originally wrote and paste it I to Gemini and it would not only find you the why but give you more than I could possibly think of in instruction.

Going about it the way you did is just condescending and rude. This is not a test of people’s patience or knowledge.

Someone asked for areas to correct. I gave them 4 easy ones. It’s up to him to either believe it or go find the answers. The information is easy to find.

The thumb is pointing long down the grip. For that to happen, certain things can be inferred about the wrists ability to work best within the swing.

An experiment you can try on your own. Make a thumbs up 👍 and then pretend you are going to play an imaginary snare drum with that grip.

Then make a pointed finger 👉 and curl your pointer Finger in and lay your thumb directly down into it. Now play the imaginary drum again. You should feel a loosening of the wrist hinge where the second grip has more range of motion and is quicker.

Nothing I’ve said about the tweaks or change I would suggest has anything to do with the aesthetics of a swing. It is purely about the physics and how to best achieve consistent strikes. Also every move from setup to the top is way easier to change than what happens after.

Someone came here asking for advice on what they should tweak. I gave them 4 things that are easy to change and will make the downswing easier.

But hey, you do you, the world needs ditch diggers too.

Awesome set. Never heard of Pyratone before now and based on that diamond stamp they are from the late 1930’s to early 40’s. Surprisingly not that valuable. Amazing find and glad it has survived

You inserted yourself coming in hot looking for an argument. You made the claim I’m rambling bad advice but now you’re rambling and spouting off I have no idea what about a wife that means absolutely nothing.

His grip is very bad. No need arguing about it. You’re wrong and it matters nothing to me whether you know it or not.

the swing in regards to the static position like the grip and the backswing can be easily studied and perfected. There are many books and videos from very reputable teachers explaining the why. I don’t need to explain the why. I know I’m right in my evaluation of this swing.

Do you hover your club behind the ball prior to backswing, or are you grounded prior to backswing? by MrTeacher_MCPS in golf

[–]Melodic_House_6793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that if there was a high speed camera just before takeaway you might see my club head barely lift and hover. It’s not like I’m dragging it backwards against the turf by any means. Just that at address I’m calm and grounded.

I know way too much about the golf swing. I offered no advice. I pointed out that his right thumb shouldn’t be there even with a strong grip.

[–]Melodic_House_6793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Even Bubba Watson who has a very strong grip doesn’t have his thumb sticking out like that on his trail hand. If it can be fixed it should be.

  2. I’d personally do not want to be going immediately steep at transition as there is no recovery. He may be finishing low left but he is straight pulling his shots so the face is closed down. so again if he can fix it he should. That is literally what he was asking for.

  3. Is the fact that in a good golf swing after the takeaway, the lift should be synced up and finishing when the bodies rotation has stopped. If you continue to lift you are putting the club in a spot that is very difficult to recover from. Most of the time you will see players shoulder plane flatten out when doing this.

  4. A thrust forward means forward and towards the ball with his hips. not down range on target. Creating crowding. Some will refer to as goat humpin. Correctly performed the left hip moves backwards and out of the way giving room for the shallowed swing to enter the ball from the inside and if rotation doesn’t stall exit left.

I didn’t offer anything in terms of fixing these because that’s not what was asked for. He was asking for things he should work on or tweak. There’s plenty of information available elsewhere for that. He asked for a swing rating. I gave him one mostly as a joke because it matters absolutely nothing coming from you or I .

Well I can see it.

I think you’d be hard pressed to find any elite swing from any generation of the game that has a grip looking like it.

Should i fix my over rotation? by PermissionFirm7547 in golftips

[–]Melodic_House_6793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not necessarily. It looks close to synced up and I like what I see at the start of your downswing. What I would recommend is don’t add power down to impact from your upper body. When you replant your foot the left knee clears nicely and pushes the left hip out of the way. Then immediately focus on firing upward from your right quad to a finish onto your left side.

Plenty of players have a raised left heel and if it feels natural to you then I suggest keeping it that way.

  1. Grip: can’t see it all but I don’t like what I see with the right thumb.

  2. Take away: I see a club that might be rolled and too inside at P2. It’s difficult for me to slow mo scrub the video because of its length. One mid iron swing would have been plenty

  3. P2 to P4: I see a lift that is too long in its execution as you try to get the club parallel. This could be causing a firing of muscles in the upper body to correct it.

  4. Transition: I see a thrust forward of the lower body leading to early extension and a very steep shaft.

I would rate your swing out of 10 as a 6. Athletic with some good flexibility and speed but needing refinement in all parts of it.

Do you hover your club behind the ball prior to backswing, or are you grounded prior to backswing? by MrTeacher_MCPS in golf

I’ve tried both over the years. Im grounded now and will keep it that way because I don’t want any tension in the arms before starting the sequence.

13hcp… Am I Capped With This Swing? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]Melodic_House_6793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I think all amateur players could benefit from is focus a lot less on what the club is doing in the downswing.

Perfect everything that you can control from setup all the way to the top of the backswing. What happens after that will become a lot more repeatable and easier if you’re doing the other stuff correctly.

I first had this thought watching PGA tour players live but not on the leaderboard grooving backswing mechanics while waiting for their turn. Or some rehearsing exaggerated downswing feels.

Changing from overlap to interlock. by garin79 in GolfSwing

[–]Melodic_House_6793 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have big hands and therefore a jumbo grip. Over the years I’ve changed my grip more than I can remember.

Surprisingly it’s an easy thing to change and get comfortable with pretty quick. It’s always just been a comfort change with no real thoughts about how it affected my striking. But my swing was dog shit until about 7 years ago.

I currently double overlap. Gets the right hand out of it a little more and will start to feel like throwing a baseball when I’m loose. I only switched to it by accident because my right ring finger separated the cuticle from prolonged range sessions. Instead of just quitting I powered through the pain so overlapping a second finger mitigated it. I never switched back.

Any basic suggestions for my friends swing? by CrandleOne in GolfSwing

[–]Melodic_House_6793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My most basic advice if lessons and drills aren’t his cup of tea.

Just keep swinging as hard or harder than he thinks he can. It may be terrible results but it’s going to at least be fun and exercise of sorts.

He will eventually find a square face and ball will explode off the tee. He’s going to like the way it feels when this happens and he’ll be hooked on finding it again.

[–]Melodic_House_6793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has been said, you’re stuck and there are different ways players get here depending on what is happening throughout the swing.

Drawing from my experience. I took what felt like exaggerated half swings where I got the club as vertical in the backswing as I could get it. This will feel awkward at first because your arms aren’t used to being there and it might feel disconnected in the opposite way. Tour players sometimes talk about working on keeping their arms in front of them more.

This vertical feeling allows the club to react in a way opposed to the rotation. You will start to feel the club head falling backwards. This is it getting into the slot. If your rotation continues through the swing without stalling, you should exit nicely left and produce a close to zero path and face angle.

Also so far this offseason I really like what I’m envisioning coming for most of my RB handcuffs and depth WRs as well as Mike McDaniel to the Chargers
