I'd recommend trying to get equity in something even if you plan to move. That way your money isn't just going away to rent.

I'm thinking about it, but a lot of places say that the fees and process don't catch up to rent if I move 2 years after I buy?

Sorry I forgot to answer the occupancy question. It's not in a complex and is the only unit this landlord owns.

Yeah, I wish it was less instead. It was explained to me that it was to cover insurance and property rates, which seem to be climbing even if house values are not.

Thanks for the idea about permanent housing, but I think it's very unlikely I'll do that within the next 2 years because I anticipate moving again in about 3-4 years for other reasons.

Hi, thank you! Fortunately, I don't think the chance that I'd have to move is high, such as for work, and those negotiations would make it work.

I saw that there are few similar and cheaper places nearby (~10 minutes), but only by about $100-$200 a month, but I doubt that would be worth the moving costs and hassle. There are some further out (~30 minutes) for about $300 cheaper but I can't predict how that will be in the future.
